I just got this Epiphone Les Paul Custom (White)
Just want to ask you guys is it real of fake.
Can anyone explain to me why the serial numbers doesn't include the country code.

Shifty is right about the angle but it's got thumbwheels, the screw is in the correct place, so it looks ok from that angle to me.

Yeah, that's correct. But the recent 'LU' serial fakes all have thumbwheels and the pickguard screw in the correct position.

Because of the information I've gathered about the seller I'm pretty convinced he's legit. He's got around 500 posative feedback, he hasn't tried to pass it off as new and he's sent me the serial number.

That's a stock photo... probably not the actual guitar. Anytime the seller prints:

The serial number can be verified at http : // www .guitardaterproject.org / epiphone.aspx

I would run the other direction.

Yeah, right. The 2 pictures in that ad don't even show the same guitar. One is a Honeyburst Elitist and the other is a Trans Amber MIC Standard Plus.

I think it could actually be real, the macines look good and the bridge has the thumbwheels, it's just the pickguard screw that's off, but if shifty says fake it's most definately fake

Hmm, I looked close but I couldn't make out thumbwheels. Also, the 'EE' appears to be slightly larger. I wouldn't mind to stand corrected, though.

I'm a little bit "in between" because as Shifty said, it might be a fake, but there's an Epiphone logo under the pickups, it sounds quite good actually, and i've read that the fake ones do not have any logo under the pickups.

But on the other hand, the bridge has NO thumbwheel, you have good eyes Shifty

Maybe, the fake models have "improved" over the months ?

So... i've started an Paypal claim. I think i might get my money back (within some months), because i had kinda the same problem with as pair US seller (item no corresponding !), we'll see.

If it doesn't have thumbwheels, it's a fake. Epiphones made during the 90s by the Samick factory didn't have thumbwheels but since the late 90s every Epiphone has thumbwheels on the bridge studs.

I like that Ebay idea someone set up crosslinking the fake sellers to one page, but its asking for trouble. I dont think that Buzzsaw is fake and its on the front page. The only thing it lacks is the tophat knobs. THe stripes and everything else is right.

nah, that doesn't count as a fake, just a ripoff. NOTHING about that guitar is pretending to be a gibson or epiphone...
