I saw that pic on Facebook recently and the same question was asked.

The consensus is that it's broken bow hair that curves just over the pickguard's bracket.

Really doesn't look like that though, metal piece of something coming out of the pickguard, nothing on top of the guard or the pickup, and thats a fat piece of bow to break off

The metal piece you refer to is just the normal standard bracket that holds the pickguard in place.

As for the bow hair, if you squint, you can trace the curved outline back to the bow itself.

Anyone knows in what year the b-bender was installed in his candy apple red Les Paul?

Not my image but is Jimmy's #3, seems to be an odd hole to the left of the lower pickup?

I remember the explanation for the hole (but don't ask me for the source):

A hole was drilled for the installation of a guitar-synth pickup.

From the same article I read long ago, he considered (at the time) his #3 Les Paul as an experimentation platform for guitar gadgets.

It was an ARP synth pickup.

Wait a tick, years ago and I do mean many years ago someone on this forum had a contact with Jimmy Page's guitar tech and posted some things about his gear and would delete the info after a short time.

Are you that person or recall that member? I know it wasn't the OP Bobbo either and I think some of that info was posted in the very early days of this thread.

I knew Jimmys 'Right hand Man' and foolishly never racked his brains on #3.
My questions were directed at #1
