I remember the thread on these a long while back but beyond talk of the guitar, there didn’t seem to be much more. Looks like Gibson is really making it happen now. I thought it would be more overpriced but at $2K it’s more tempting. The pelham blue, DC body, and p90’s…Just when I thought I was done buying Les Pauls, Gibson pulls me back in haha.

Thinner body than a regular Special. No grain filler. Rick is donating his part of the proceeds from the sale of this guitar to a children’s charity.

Sold out at CME already.

No MOP on the headstock. Coupled with it being slightly thinner and about $400 more than the regular Special, it seems slightly overpriced - but essentially a donation for music programs.

Cool color and rounded neck profile makes this tempting. Wish they had gone with a wraparound vs TOM though. Agree this should have had MOP Inlay with binding. I have one of the originals that this is based on which has the 60's thin profile of the early 2k period. Plays great but lean towards fuller neck profiles these days.

Wonder if this is a proper 50's profile like on the Jr.

Think Gibson would have been better pricing these around the $1799 mark - Price isn't outrageous, and will probably sell out, but maybe a bit high considering the original collection prices.

They had me until I saw the price. Thinner body, matte finish, no inlaid logo, the truss rod cover that needs to be replaced, all for more money than the regular single cut Special? Nope, total miss to me.

Cool color. What gets to me is why they didn't do a MOP Gibson inlay logo with the bound neck
Good catch, I just realized this now that you mention it.
Since my SG special has a bound neck and simple screen printed logo, I thought that was normal for all the special models. But now I see the LP specials have a MOP inlay logo. That’s def a let down considering the added price.

This is a much better pic of the body thanks. I couldn’t make out how the lack of grain filler really looked from the video.

I also wish it had MOP inlay on headstock. Would like it better with grain filler and gloss paint.

Have an SG Special in Pelham Blue, they would look good together!

+1 for the Children’s Charity donation.
Same! I have the SG special as well and LOVE that guitar and the color. This peaked my interest because of that guitar.

Def would have been better with the grain filler. Without the filler it has more of a faded model vibe.

I don’t mind the thinner body, might actually make it more comfortable. But would agree on the lack of grain filler and the lack of inlayed logo. Not a deal breaker for me but would have been nice. Price no doubt is for the signature name rather than the features. Though the Adam Jones LP does seem to be a relatively better value for the money since you get some real spec upgrades with that.

Seems like a really sensible instrument that is focused on the player and is intended to be played to death, not a collector's special edition that will still be in mint condition, unplayed with all tags and case candy, found in a vault full of other guitars that have never seen the light of day in 20 years, when the collector/owner dies.

Since I don't have a P90 guitar I'd say yes to this with no trouble at all. I hope they're made as an UNlimited edition and they make them to fill demand. I suspect they will sell well.

Yes I always approve of a TOM bridge and stop bar tailpiece combo. It's never wrong.

Yes it’s a dark day my friends that it has come to this. Make no mistake Gibson has crossed a line and opened a door for the first time which might not have been the greatest thing from the perspective of protecting the value of the Gibson name and brand IMO. We now live in a world where a freaking YouTuber can get a genuine Gibson signature model. Not a guy who wrote and or recorded a #1 song….Not a artist that sold a million albums….we’re talking about a Tuber a freaking GD Tuber. The daily guitar lesson and top 10 rock riff list guy got a signature model. Ughh Which all means with what I’m about to say there is now a chance where before it would have been laughed away. Because of friggin Beato there is now at least a chance of my nightmare becoming a reality. So I have to officially say this. I have to go on record with this…Regardless of how unlikely it might be…. no matter how slim the chances…. If I live to see the day where there is such a thing as a Trogly signature model or even worse that guy who talks in stupid voices and acts like a total douche nozzle in every video I’ll have to give up guitar. I’m burning my Gibsons in a fireplace because the name and the game will never be the same again. Kills me to say it after that rant but Beato’s signature guitar is pretty cool if I’m being honest and I respect the basic essence of it with keeping it simple yet hugely functionaL All of which should add up to a very cool uniquely colored and affordable guitar. Players would be drawn to it and be picking it up at GC saying “what a cool guitar but who the hell is Brick Reato “ Of course I fully expect Gibson to ruin it with a huge unexplainable price mark up for the simple fact of it being a signature regardless that nobody outside of YouTube guitar guys will have heard of him. Shame because proceeds are supposed to go to charity which in itself should dictate the price being where you can sell as many as you can make. But I got a feeling based off past history on these sort of things

It's really sweet for sure, but still not my cup of tea. That's great that his proceeds go to Kids Music Programs. Unlike Amber Herd's who's 7-million-dollar donation went to herself and her sister. Haha

You might want to get it pre-ordered at Sam Ash if you're in the US, they are running phone-in deals now. You can get it pretty close to that price. There is also an additional $70 statement credit when using their card plus 0% financing for 36 months if you need that, too.

Rick wrote, recorded and produced a top ten album with Shinedown. One single reached #2 on the charts.

Congrats on your post fail.

It would be much more noble that all the money went to charity..... not a portion..... being off mark as a Special and not a proper gloss finish it doesn’t do it for me.

Yeah so have tons of guys. Of course Rick is far more accomplished than just being on YouTube and is hugely respected as a session guy too. The point was and still is that he is basically a unknown to the masses. You are clearly a fan and would know his history but to the average “joe” he’s just a name on the guitar they will probably have to go look up. The point of the post was that they are doing a signature guitar for a pretty obscure name, not so much to dump on Rick or his accomplishments. So congrats on missing the point. The tidbit you threw out there about Rick’s work is still the work of a background guy not the name and face everyone would know like most signature models are. Point was the bar has been lowered on the standard to have your name placed on a guitar made by arguably the most famous guitar brand in the world. Before, that would be unheard of and unimaginable considering the list of names you could bring up that are household names that haven’t had that honor bestowed upon them by a major guitar brand.

No other color?

I bet I would like it if I played it.
