Hey Everyone,

I'm being offered this guitar for sale. At first I thought it was a true Custom, but now I'm thinking it's a Classic Custom based on the truss rod cover being blank. Do these have maple fretboards? This is the only pic I have. Fretboard looks very dark to be maple, but maybe it's just the lighting. Most of the pics of Classic Customs have chrome hardware.

What makes you think it's not a full Custom, besides the truss rod cover (which can be easily changed)?

It very well could be a full custom with a change rod cover. Even if it were a lite The rod cover isn't correct (but as you said, easily changed). This picture doesn't do much for me but if we're guessing non traditional Custom versions then my guess is a 2016 Custom Lite because it would have a Rosewood board and Acrylic Pearloid inlays but otherwise look the same from the front.

Again it's hard to say from just this pic but the inlays appear to be too uniform to be real M.O.P.

I've been wrong before though.

It looks like a regular Custom at first glance, but definitely need to see more pics.

The seller is a woman who inherited 80 guitars from her father who passed away. Most of the guitars I've seen tend to be from the 2012-2018 time period. A lot of them haven't been played. He wasn't a guy who modded things and all his other guitars are stock. He wouldn't have changed a truss rod for fun. I'm trying to get more pics, but she just described the guitar as Les Paul (white). I'm leaning towards a 2016 custom Lite. Thanks to everyone for the help.

If it does happen to be the Custom Lite I highly recommend. My main guitar for about a decade was a 1988 Les Paul Custom but after the the recession in 2008 I had to sell off a lot of stuff to keep the house going including my pride and joy. After selling some really great guitars I had enough to buy an SG which then became my main guitar. Now, that I'm not struggling like I was I started building up a nice collection again.

I bought this beautiful 2007 Guitar of the month Custom Classic and tried so hard to love it but now that I'm used to the easy upper fret access of the SG a traditional Les Paul seems limiting.

The beauty of the Lite is it still looks, plays and sounds like a Les Paul but has better upper fret access.

This pic does help. I first thought it was a Classic Custom but they all seem to have chrome hardware. I asked her for more pics before I go see it and it's currently in a storage unit. She gave me a serial number that starts with "U" followed by 8 digits. I'm pretty sure that serial number is not the right guitar.

Looks like a White Regular Custom with an Ebony Fretboard, or Richlite depending on the year of the guitar. We would love to see more pictures, that is a beauty.

It's not unheard of for people to swap all the hardware. If I owned a Classic Custom that I felt was a keeper I would likely do that. I just really like Gold hardware on some Gibsons.

I currently own these 61RI SGs and have been thinking about either swapping everything to Gold on the Black one or trying it with P-94s. Everything I need either way is already at the house.

A serial starting with a U would be a pretty big red flag. If it's a knockoff, it one of the better ones. I'm sure she's mistaken.

I have searched for a lighter and easier to play LP for years. I had a custom lite 3 knob version that I sold too quickly. I plan to buy it either way. Supposed to see it Sunday and I guess the mystery will be solved.

The Lites being lighter is just an added bonus for me. Mine comes in at 8 pounds. My Lucille is a little under 11 pounds I think but the way it hangs doesn't really feel like it.

The Custom Lites are just a perfect marriage between a Les Paul and an SG and I'm surprised they aren't more popular. In the end a good guitar is a good guitar so hopefully it all works out one way or the other.
