What the fuck is wrong with people? Do instruments like this actually sell for this kind of dough? Fucking ridiculous!

20 G comes out with the pocket lint on clothes that are only ever worn once. It's actually pretty cheap really.

I bought serial #120 from the run for $5k a year ago. It was also the stopbar tailpiece version which are not that common. Chicago music exchange bought it off me and sold it around the $9k range? There are YouTube videos of the guitar. $20k…..

It is worth what people are willing to pay for it. If it sells, then it is worth that much to someone whether there is a logical reason for its price or not. How expensive these guitars are is all relative to the buyer and their bank account.

Additionally, to simplify the situation, the increased prices we are seeing of just about all assets deemed suitable for collecting (art, cars, instruments, etc) are driven by expansionary monetary policy and what I call "fuck you" money made in the stock market, real estate, and other investments benefiting from the increased liquidity over the past year and a half. I'm willing to bet we see collector guitar prices calm down with all the rest of the aforementioned assets if/when interest rates increase and the fed takes its foot off the gas pedal. This will likely drive liquidity back out of the financial system resulting in decrease prices of the most expensive assets and collectors items.

The price I see is $26,162.21 CAD. Long & McQuade wants $10,799 plus tax for that new guitar new, Murphy Lab, and minus the Jimmy Page part. Everything is outrageous nowadays.

I still can't get over used Gibson SG Standard values. I got one in 2019 for $700 when a new one was $1,250. Now all the used Standards are $1,500+ and a new one is $2,100.

It's worth is what someone will pay for it.

If they can get 20 Large, good for them. I'm happy for their success in selling it, and happy that the buyer could afford it (and hopefully will love it).

Capitalism, Baby.

The part I think that is ridiculous is people putting up a thread every 30 minutes about how expensive $hit has become and complaining.

It is worth what people are willing to pay for it...

End of story.

Why do people have such trouble understanding this? Would I ever pay $20K for it, now way! But I know plenty of people would would think I'm absolutely mad for spending $2K on a guitar.

It's all relative.

Look at any Gibson you own and ask yourself if the materials + labour alone add up to what it cost new. Why did you (or someone else) pay the ticket price? Someone felt it was worth paying $X more than what it would cost to build in order to own it...the only difference between them and the new owner of the Jimmy Page LP is how much more than cost they think its reasonable to pay for the privilege of owning it.

the listing description is abit misleading. While it is true the guitar was never 'recovered' for many years, it has since been returned to Jimmy Page and the listing fails to include that. Seems they are riding off what was once a mystery. Still a cool story all in all though, happy ending I mean.

It's a free country. People can ask whatever they want. You may not know the purpose for the price. They may be hoping for a big payday or they may not really want to sell. Maybe they are looking for what sort of private offers they might receive. Maybe they put it out there at a high price to drive more people to other listings. Nevertheless, it is extremely bad form to troll someone for their price on MLP forum. If you don't have the money, just move on.
