Hey guys when you order a set of zebra pickups. Do they send you a neck with the black facing down towards the bridge and the bridge pickup with the black facing inward? Or is that the reverse zebra? Sorry for the stupid question.

Zebra will have the pole pieces on the black bobbin
Reverse will have them on the cream.
When you mount them the pole pieces on the neck are on top, pole pieces on the bridge are on the bottom.

More info found below:

The good old zebra versus rev. zebra confusion.

According to Duncan, zebra = creme screw coil and black slug coil.

But many (other than Duncan folk) refer to that combination as the reverse zebra, as 50's zebra PAF's generally came with black screw coil and creme slug coil. At least that's what they say was more common.

So I guess it depends on who you buy from.

Edit: Even more info...

Gibson Les Paul Sunburst Standard guitar info 1958 1959 1960 sun burst vintage value

Also around serial number "9 06xx" another very subtle change happened; the plastic humbucker pickup bobbins changed from black to a white color. Not all pickups had this coloring, and some pickups were "zebra" (one bobbin white, one black, with the black bobbin *always* being the bobbin with the adjustable poles).

Those are reverse zebra. It only matters what original PAFs were, not what Gibson (or any other pickup maker) thinks now. The original PAFs were mostly black screw side and cream slug side, the reverse happened but was very rare.

The creme/screw-side is brighter than the black/screw-side...

hahahahehehhahaha ... you are joking right?

Gmacdonnell once said in a post that the creme coloured bobbins tend to favour the upper mids a little compared to other bobbin colours.
Maybe it does:laugh2:

Maybe the reflector knobs let you "reflect" more on your tone:laugh2:
It would be great to see a demo proving the sound of the different colour on bobbins.
