YouTube is good, but also annoying

It's great that anyone can post videos to YouTube and it's also cool that news outlets post videos to either YouTube or their own web sites. There is a lot of creative and funny stuff out there.

What is annoying is that it's become quite apparent that a lot of people (I made up that guesstimate based on my own internet experiences) seem to believe that video on a computer is still novel and prefer to use video links over written articles when it comes to news or simply both being available (CNN - I'm talking to you as well as this board!). Sometimes, only video is available because whatever it is has never been published to text. Other times, there is a choice...

I skip over the videos posted here for the most part unless it's a music video that interests me. But, when it comes to news, there is so much shit out there on the web that I simply do not care to spend the time waiting for some video to get to whatever the point is when I could have more easily quickly scanned through an article.

If there is a choice between a video and an article, post the article or, at least, post it along with the video or type up some sort of synapses. Either way, quit wasting my time and your time by posting a video that I have to endure just to garner what adds up to 10 seconds of useful information.

Back when I used to bother with "news", I still wasn't up for investing the time needed to listen to somebody talk about it, when I could read an article with 10x the data in 1/10th the time. :thumb:

I love youtube, the comments are usually as good as the videos themselves, there are some funny mofos out there.

The comments are often so full of swears and people being jerks that I turn them off.

I consider it an extremely valid point.
As a matter of fact, when my youtube account was killed, a part of me was even glad about it. On my new site, I took the chance to start writing "articles" instead of doing videos for some subjects. I think written articles - with images - can be a lot more descriptive, more in depth and will stay in the mind more easily.
The equivalent by video can be done, but it takes - imho - an extremely good pre and post production to do.
Doing good videos is not as easy as it may seem.

I post a link to an article if I'm making a post on it, but also quote it, or part of it, if it's too long, for the lazy mofos that don't want to click the link. I generally don't post YouTube vids for news.

Speaking of annoying you tube, I got so sick of the same Google ad following me around from site to site, assuming it locked onto my IP, that I added the No Script extension to Firefox. Good bye ad server!

Youtube has gotten horrible. Nearly every video has a reference to Justin Bieber in the comments.

They're so much better than Justin Bieber!!

And then you have the whole "You say Miley Cyrus, I say Slayer" comments that are over the top annoying.

Then you have a Guns 'n Roses video followed by a massive theological debate with Doctorate level arguments on whether or not God was in fact the creator of the universe. Completely unrelated to the video.

They killed your account? I used to check out your stuff before I knew you were a member here. That's too bad.
