Ever seen guitar geek? The guitar rig database? guitargeek | the guitar rig database

What is your rig? From your number one axe to your speaker cab....and who or what does it sound like at the end? Give us all the details!

Example: 1987 Gibson Les Paul Custom Lite> Metal Muff> Krank Rev Jr. > 2X Krank 1x12 cabs = chunky metal like VH1 meets Zakk Wylde on "Crazy Babies"

Guitar A:Epiphone customized Les Paul
Guitar B: A project strat with ash body, v-neck and fralin pickups with blender pot.

Effects: Fulltone Fulldrive 2 or OCD v1.0 (actually #40), a line six delay pedal, loop station. Also on the way, but not here is a cry baby.

Amp 1: THD Univalve with KT88 output and some configuration of input tubes. Speakers are two twelves by ted weber that he suggested.

Amp 2: a 72 Twin Reverb with Weber California Special speakers.

Strings: I'll only use Rotosound or Thomastik strings now.

Still need to set up the wah to be true bypass and also will get an Ultimate Octave pedal.

Currently, but eyeing to change and add (as usual...):

2004 Ebony LP CS --> Pitchblack+ --> OCD --> Carbon Copy --> Egnater Rebel 20 --> MG15 "cab"

Looking for a 8 Ohm THD Hotplate (sub $200).
The OCD isn't rough enough - any ideas?
Trying to discover the perfect fuzz for a dark LP before laying out the money - Sunface or Peppermint but too high $$.
The Pitchblack+ is just too damn big - petty I know, but the TurboTuner looks great.
--then I would be done..or...maybe...

Currently:
Tokai LP w/Bill and Becky L-500XL in bridge > Boss tu2 > Bad Horsie > EH Small Clone > MXR Smart Gate > Carvin MTS Head with BBE Sonic Stomp in FX loop > Marshall 1960a or Carvin 4x12 cab

The Carvin actually sounds fantastic after screwing around with different tube combinations. I have it biased in El34 mode and i changed around all the preamp tubes. It's got great "crunch" instead of all that harsh high gain "fizz" it has stock. I need to add a good Delay and i would be fine if i never got anything else.
Well.....maybe not fine but i would live ;)

EDIT: Found this pic from last year with a 2x12 i built from scratch. Basically the same setup though.

Well, after bitchin' about the OCD I got to thinkin' and decided to try 18v through it (battery plus external). It sounds really good, could be a bit more raucus, I suppose, but it was greatly improved. If you have an OCD try 18v!

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong as using an external disables the battery and thus cannot add to the battery. I figure I have a low battery and with the external am finally getting a full 9volts - sounds so much better. I am quite eager to find an 18v supply now.

1997 LP Classic with Duncan Jazz/JB pickups, or stock 2003 Ibanez JEM 7vwh, Planet Waves cables, Boss GT-8 (I only use the effects, not the amp models) in effects loop, Mesa Boogie RectoVerb (Series II) 50 w head (with EL-34's) through 2x12 Recto cabinet. Occasional use of ; Boss ds-1 or HM-2, Tech 21 XXL distortion w/even/odd harmonics (cool pedal!), Ibanez screaming demon or Morley Bad Horsie wha.

Plenty of room for improvement especially in the signal processing end of things, however generally speaking the equipment is inherently of a better quality than my actual ability to render music from it, so I am lucky to have what I have. Any decent musician should be able to wrangle some pretty amazing tone through my rig...

The easy way:
LP>JCM800 2205>'60a

The hard way:
LP>Dime wah>BD-2>MT-3>CS-3>carbon copy>KFK 10 band eq>Vox Tonelab optical sp/dif out>M-audio FW410>Dell Dimension>back to FW 410>Soundesign mixer>Digitech S200>back to mixer>BBE 482i>back to FW410>back to Dell(Pro Tools, Ableton Live)>back to fw410>Boss GE15>QSC power amp>(2)60a's

The cool thing is, the easy way and hard way are both as easy as flipping a switch and plugging in a cable.

'82 ES-335 w/ '62 Pat. #'s and RS pots, Sprague Q's>Evidence Audio "Melody" cable>George Dennis GD-20 volume>Xotic RC Booster>Fender Deluxe Reverb w/ Cannabis Rex and Tung Sols>
Furman Power Conditioner

I only use the pedals on some gigs, where I either need swells, or more boost for leads and solos. For touring I'm now using a '65 Reissue Deluxe, but for recording and local gigs I use my '66 BF Deluxe with a Tone Tubby speaker.

I like to keep things pure and simple, and get as much variations and tones from my fingers, pick, and the knobs on the guitar.
