My two favorite fuzz pedals are the Fuzz Face and Tonebender. Both have a very different feel when you are playing and are versatile enough that you can coax some awesome tones out of them.

My hands down favorite pedal for playing blues is the Fuzz Face. I set the volume to max and the gain to around 3 o'clock then back off the guitars volume to between 6 and 8. It adds a beautiful harmonic complexity and growl to the tone that is perfect for the blues IMO.

The Tonebender is a pedal that straddles the line between fuzz and distortion so it is excellent for modern indie/grunge/punk harder edged stuff. It has a looser bass response than a metal type pedal/amp so it has a totally different feel while still giving you a tonne of gain. It also adds a lot of harmonic content to the tone.

You may have noticed a common theme in both these pedals. . .harmonic content. That is always an important consideration to me when choosing to keep a pedal. I really hate it when my tone sounds flat or lacks a lot of dimension.

Another big Tone Bender fan here !!!

PLEASE give that (soon to be, "hard-to-find") black Muff a happy home.

I bought mine used (also for $75.00) and it is most deff a keeper.

MMMmmm, never heard of your Boost pedal, or the brand before :
I just re-looked at the ad. . .it's on for $90 and its about an hour up the highway. . .have to give some more thought to this one. :hmm:

The SDD-3KP is the pre-amp section of the Korg SDD-3000 rack delay in pedal form. I got it to add that warm boost to some of the U2 stuff that I play but found it to be the best boost I've ever used! Hand made in the USA and pretty reasonably priced for what you get. It adds to the low mids of your tone which is what adds the "warmth". . .very cool pedal.

im a bit drunk and didnt notice this thread so i posted in another one but...

im def not afraid to be called a noob or a wannabe guitarist... But i do have an honest question. which songs do you guys play/or in general what does a good fuzz pedal do to your tone or sound?

@[email protected] The band I play in would be considered "doom metal, stoner metal, or maybe just slow metal," and I've been able to get very good USABLE tones with the Boss FZ-5. I mainly leave it on the F setting, which is modeled after a Fuzz Face. I also use a Shin-ei FY-6 clone made by RedLayne77 when I need a really nasty and thick lead tone. I don't find the FY-6 useful for rhythm at all, though, because of its very nature. Another good fuzz is the Voodoo Lab Superfuzz. Before I sold it(bad move!), I found it very useful for rhythm and lead. Hope that helps!

I love my Skinpimp Mk2 so much I refuse to take it out of the house. I won't even allow people to look directly at it. It completes me.

I like Fuzz pedals that clean up with the guitar volume. Such as the Fuzz Face and Tone Bender.

Classic combination of pedals!

I haven't tried the MXR Micro amp as I have a really awesome boost, DTS SDD-3KP that adds awesome warmth plus 20+ dB of boost.

There is a black Russian for sale right now locally for something stupid like $75. . .may have to liberate that pedal!

I hope that Black Muff is in your grubby lil paws already :naughty:

Rocked mine yesterday - and it sounds heavenly through my Bassman rig.

I missed it by about an hour. .

I ended up building a v4 Op Amp Big Muff using a PCB from member BuGG and a used ($40) USA Big Muff.

It sounds AWESOME!

I love the big thick fuzzes. On my board is a russian muff, Maestro mfz clone and a french toast. I love my tonebender but it needs new transistors. It's still monsterous.

Ramble FX Twin Bender Unprofessional, classic NOS Germanium transistors with either the MKI.V and MkII circuit, a nice FAT switch, and an adjustable bias that allows even more tonal variations.

It's gotta be the Big Muff for me. In particular, the "Little" Big Muff, because it actually fits on a pedalboard.

It's just a very versatile fuzz overall. I like a very creamy and thick fuzz, not overly gritty, but retaining that violin-like sustain, especially on a neck pickup or with the volume rolled back on your guitar. Great fuzz. Tons of tones in it. Eric Johnson to Jimmy Page to Hendrix to Jack White etc.

I spent most of yesterday at Pro Guitar Shop's web site and YouTube looking at demo videos of Big Muff type pedals. I looked at damn near everything.... well definitely alot. I wanted a smooth fuzz.
I finally ordered a Mojo Hand Iron Bell but almost.... almost got a Mojo Hand Zepher Fuzz . This is not a Muff type fuzz but like the old Sam Ash fuzz box
...I play blues, classic rock and originals.
Would it be totally nuts to have 2 fuzz boxes on my pedal board ?
