If you use fuzzes for recording, you will find a usage for each and every one. Live usage, different story:)

I just built a Mossrite Fuzzrite clone I'm really liking it. Its a very different fuzz tone from my Big Muff (clone). Its more a Saxophone tone if that makes sense. I haven't playing live yet (this weekend. That's the real test.

I just put up a npd review of the Tweak Fuzz, but Ill add it here too. Great sizzle to it...doesn't sound as smooth and electrical as most other fuzzes I've used. I saw someone mentioned a behringer super fuzz earlier. I've got one of those too! Sounds just like a Boss fuzz I unloaded in one of my yearly gear shake ups. I'd love to get ahold of a tone bender someday, but for now my tweak nails that late 60s dirty fuzz I dig.

I use fuzz mainly for Carpenters covers. :dude: Many fuzzes can be nice alternatives to OD and distortion for various kinds of rock, blues, and all kinds of music. They don't always need to be over the top. Many fuzzes will get really cool lower-gain tones, do fairly articulate chords, etc. What a fuzz does to ones sound varies greatly with the type of fuzz and how it's set. Beyond the sound, they each have a feel (or maybe a range of 'touch'), which may influence one to play in different ways.

With most modern fuzzes I've played I just used it over a clean channel for a different kind of distortion...good for indy or punk type stuff...some of em I've tried like the behringer/boss I could even coax a metal sound out of. It seems most inexpensive fuzzes these days are just distortion pedals with square clipping. However with that tweak fuzz or a lot of older fuzz styles you can kick it in over a gain channel on your amp for a sweet boost. That's my new favorite way to use fuzz.

But don't take my word for it...listen to Jimmy explain it! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6hwU-jP4kI"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6hwU-jP4kI[/ame]

btw [email protected], I see you use a mustang v but I recommend against the built in fuzz effect. way too digital. you can try a fuzz pedal over a preset with lighter distortion and still get awesome results. I made one based on the reverb deluxe pushed so it has a bit of break up than hammer it with the fuzz to get some great vintage growl.

My two favorite fuzz pedals are the Fuzz Face and Tonebender. Both have a very different feel when you are playing and are versatile enough that you can coax some awesome tones out of them.

My hands down favorite pedal for playing blues is the Fuzz Face. I set the volume to max and the gain to around 3 o'clock then back off the guitars volume to between 6 and 8. It adds a beautiful harmonic complexity and growl to the tone that is perfect for the blues IMO.

The Tonebender is a pedal that straddles the line between fuzz and distortion so it is excellent for modern indie/grunge/punk harder edged stuff. It has a looser bass response than a metal type pedal/amp so it has a totally different feel while still giving you a tonne of gain. It also adds a lot of harmonic content to the tone.

You may have noticed a common theme in both these pedals. . .harmonic content. That is always an important consideration to me when choosing to keep a pedal. I really hate it when my tone sounds flat or lacks a lot of dimension.

I think you are spot on with that !
Classic combination of pedals!

I haven't tried the MXR Micro amp as I have a really awesome boost, DTS SDD-3KP that adds awesome warmth plus 20+ dB of boost.

There is a black Russian for sale right now locally for something stupid like $75. . .may have to liberate that pedal!

PLEASE give that (soon to be, "hard-to-find") black Muff a happy home.

I bought mine used (also for $75.00) and it is most deff a keeper.

Like an muppet i sold my MXR Micro Amp, and always wanted to get another one. Then last year i got an EP Booster at a very good price.
Even though i will keep the EP Booster, i still want a Micro Amp.
They just add two diff types of character to your tone.

MMMmmm, never heard of your Boost pedal, or the brand before :

Here is another boost that i tried, but it was not for sale :
