Its a plus, not needed.
When someone says it's a plus, they mean if someone else applies that has it and you don't, they get it.

So, it's required, depending on how you look at it... I like to call that "George Lucas Logic."

I'm wondering if it's the first time this position has been offered. (The way I got my flamed classic was due to the fact it was unplayable till I had it repaired. Low E was almost half an inch above the fretboard.)
