For a pessimistic bunch, they're giving Mitt Romney a good paddling for being a downer. Even the Conservative Prime Minister and mayor of London are pissed off at him. BBC reports his trip to England is a dismal failure, notwithstanding his 'preferred' Anglo-Saxon 'heritage':laugh2:

I still want to know what the twat is doing there in the first place.

I love it in Finding Forrester when the kid Connery's character is mentoring, confused says will he got back to Wales; he replies indignantly (correcting him) "Schcotland!!"

The Canadians have an opportunity to take the World Series :laugh2:

We won it twice when our Dominicans beat your Dominicans in '92 and '93.

Trying to get international approval. The entire world was in love with Obama when he was running in '08, so now it's not enough to get the people who will be voting for you to like you :laugh2:

Kind of, but it's more about the British's constant pessimism about hosting major events and having the whole world watching them. It's never a level playing field when the british are involved. It's always an uphill battle for them.

Bunch of emos :laugh2:

Of course us Brits are pessimists. :laugh2:

That's part of our charm that goes with our weather.

We expect the worst and are pleasantly surprised when something goes right which is opposite to the Americans who are religiously optimistic, then completely devastated when it goes arse upwards. :laugh2:

You see, we are used to IRA car bombs, highjackers and complete nutters trying to blow our buses up.

Had the Americans not been so complacent that all the above scenarios were impossible on their soil and perhaps a little more pessimistic, perhaps the twin towers would still be standing... Who knows.. They were there when I last went.
9/11 was a big wake up call in that department and I think you'll find there are a lot more pessimistic Americans than there used to be.

We didn't think we'd win the battle of Britain either and the vastly outnumbered pilots simply thought " F*ck it, if we are going to get our arses kicked let's give the bastards a good hiding in the process" The rest is history..
No whoopin' hollerin' or hot dogin'....It's absolutely amazing how we can bounce back after a nice cup of tea.
As Winston Churchill once said " Business as usual".

Are we grumpy bastards? You bet.. You just have to take one look at Vasco's ugly mug to see that. :laugh2:

The article may represent the typical Brit; but it doesnt't represent this one. One very proud and optimistic Londoner here! :slash:

I love so many things about London; it's rich history, the clubs and pubs, the variety of people that inhabit the area (an estimated 300 different languages are spoken), it's penchant for producing cutting edge work in the sciences and arts, but most of all the atmosphere and being arguably one of the best places in the world to study music :D

Matt

Yeh, yeh, yeh Matt....I know you're really monarchy; so no pulling the wool over peoples eyes.....:naughty:

Nah, I can honestly state I hate England.... It's crap....If I didn't have family here, I'd leave as soon as humanly possible..... No idea where, but not here.....

I suppose I have seen too much of the "governmental" and human side of things, so it's tainted me badly, so I'm pretty biased with the pessimistic thing....

In terms of the way forward, another flood (ala Noah) would help the country shine again....

You named one fantastic player. Hedeki was pretty good. I'm not saying japanese players suck, but only a few break through. For every great player you can name that makes it in the MLB, I can name ten MLB athletes who starts in the MLB.

I'd love to see the Japanese champs get roasted against the 2011 champ cards. It's pretty much fact. Look at Tsuyoshi Nishioka. He was the best player in the Japanese League. Went to the MLB, and did absolutely nothing. Every once in a while, a rare occurrence will happen, and a player will make it, but most likely not.

So stop worrying about the Japanese and start looking at other nations like the Dominicans.

And since the Olympics are on now let's look at baseball in the Olympics. The US has won once while Cuba has won three times and South Korea has won once. Sure the players were amateurs so the best American players weren't there but the best players from other countries weren't either as they, too, were playing pro. Hell, in the World Rankings Cuba is 1st with the Americans 2nd.

If you want to talk about pro leagues then yes, MLB is the best but, even then, there are others whose champs could give the MLB champs a run for their money. If you want to discuss national teams, even if we were to include pros, then the US would do very well but I would bet that the Dominicans, Cubans, etc. could quite easily be better.

The best Connery - esque Bond pun I did was when a sixth form pupil started telling me enthusiastically about a boy in his year, who had only half a right arm, but still played with a plectrum attached to it.

I said "I find shstories like this sho disharming" :)

Baseball is and always will be a minority sport.

How the hell is it a minority sport? It is played all over North America, South America, the Caribbean, Australia, and Asia (everywhere from Japan to China to South Korea and so on). It might not be big in Europe but it sure as hell is in the rest of the world.

Just had a sneak look at the alleged leaked music play list; there are selections ranging from Paul Mc Cartney, Muse, Queen, The Jam, Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Eric Clapton, to Elgar, Handel and even The Suga Babes :wow::lol: and loads of other great Brit bands/artist too!

Jimmy Page played Whole Lotta Love with pop singer Leona Lewis (when Britain won the bid several years back), I hope we see him involved tonight!

Matt

Got that list available to link or post?

Nah, the fvcker lives in Spain these days.

I get the feeling it will be Sir Roger Bannister. Then again, he has already been involved.

True, don't mess with the Welsh or they will come & terrorise you with their close harmony singing.
