I had previously written a thread about SpaceX trying to land a spent rocket stage back onto a barge, but the first try has resulted in a spectacular failure, but at least it was on target.

They think it was low on hydraulic fluid, and will increase the reservoir on subsequent missions.

Vid below pic.

Not surprising that the first attempts at something like this would fail.

The 2 speed copacelerator did not fluctuate well with the hexual jackshaft limiter causing the feebles to burn out. Common in hydraulic systems.

Right. That they got to the platform at all is pretty astounding.

But then again, as train wrecks go, rocket wrecks are way more visually stunning. :)

I have to guess that in landing vertically, the fin system is really going active, and the reservoir just couldn't handle all the fluid being moved around at once.

It's probably 20 times more of a volume of fluid with the movements required in landing backwards, than in normal flight going frontwards.

Oh we're gonna re-use this rocket?

Huh.

Can I swap my tix for the next flight?

I'm happy to pay the transfer fee.

IKR?

Which way is safer; the untested brand spanking new booster, or the vintage one that's got some launch and return cred? :hmm:

I don't worry when I fly, and I wouldn't worry if I flew in a rocket.

The only part that bothers me is the Crash And Burn part, because there's no pulling over to the side of the road, or bobbing in the water until somebody comes to save you.

There just ain't a Spare Tire for that shit.

I think the flutenary valve got stuck causing the phlem modulator to rotate up and down, causing a down angle on the "this side up" sticker, resulting in a minor setback.:iough:

You can get some touch-up paint at Rocket Zone, they're open late weekends.
