Wow. Things must be really heating up...

@Roberteaux and @LtDave32 are, no doubt, getting ready to head for a bunker!

(CNN) - Russian fighter jets were scrambled to escort a US Air Force plane that reportedly approached Russian airspace over the Pacific Ocean, Russian state news agency TASS said Sunday.

There were no violations of Russia's state border during the episode, according to TASS, which, citing Russia's National Defense Command Center, said "three Russian fighters Sukhoi-35S have been scrambled to escort a US strategic bomber B-52H, which approached Russia's airspace."

Oh, hell no I'm not scrambling for no damned bunker! :laugh2:

This kind of shit happens *constantly*... that is, every time you turn around you'll see Russian aircraft, especially bombers, flappin' around north of Scotland and being intercepted by RAF... and during joint exercises, such as one we held recently with the Swedish air force, it was Sweden and the US being intercepted by the Russians...

Canadian RAF and US also respond to a lot of Russian "intrusions" of this sort... they like to come up over the pole, or head in towards either Alaska or British Columbia...

This shit has been going on since the end of World War II. If you really want to keep up with it, just go to airforcetimes.com, and it quickly becomes apparent that this sort of thing is common, and nearly continuous.

But most people don't know this, so the newsmedia likes to roll it out whenever ratings need a boost!

Kinda like you and I have been discussing over the past couple of days...

Figured that this might be the reason for the *yawn* in the post title... it really is routine shit.

No telling what other readers might have thought, though... which is why I responded as I did... ;)

I am friends with a number of Air National Guard pilots here on the east coast, and I've heard story after story of Soviet aircraft probing the Atlantic coast seeing how far inland they can come before they pick up an escort. It's a never-ending game of cat and mouse, burning up defense funding in the form of JP-8.

China has been buzzing Taiwan a lot lately as well, kind of stupid that they do this but they like to test reflexes and look for inconsistencies in response

Yeah, I don't run to bunkers over a little drama. Neither does Rob.

run to bunkers...pfft.
Nothing meant by it. I was just making some hyperbole about this manufactured drama. (This is why I put "*yawn*" before the subject.)

From your soldier background, recall that these intercepts happen alllll the freaking time, but they make the news only when there is some sort of international tension, and the media wants to scare the uninformed into being afraid... And watching/reading more nooze.

I just hope you don't injure your ocular muscles from rolling your eyes at this BS.

You ought to see what goes on routinely between US and NK forces at the 38th parallel. 70 years of shit that never makes the news.
