And a closer view of the top.

And again. Kind of interesting how the top almost has a holographic look to it, as you change viewing angle what you can see changes.

Headstock, just to prove it's an Epiphone :thumb:

Made in Indonesia. First time for me to get an Epiphone from outside of China.

Two piece back apparently.

The neck was pretty dry and pale looking.

So I broke out the Dremel tool copy with flex extension to do some cleaning with a felt wheel.

After cleaning and some oil, it looks MUCH better.

And eventually, here's what's going to be installed, after I'm sure I won't need to return it.

I really must stop going anywhere near guitar stores.

Oustanding! I love that top. It's flamed nicely without being over the top. Congrats!

Love those cherry burst Paul's. For me, that color is the epitome of a les. paul.

It is the veneer is only on the tops

Almost all Epis made today have veneer on both the top and the back. You have to check the bottom and top edges of the body to see if the grain matches up with the grain on the back and to find the seams in the body.

Agree with Barcham, its veneer. But thats not really a bad thing. Its just a cost saving measure to make the backs look good like the tops. I stripped the finish off fo an ebony standard, and it also had a veneer on the back, even though it was painted over. of course it probably started out as a "plus top" til someone found or caused a blemish, then it ended up in the "paint it black stack". Doesn't effect the sound one bit though!

Opened up the electronics bay and discovered I'm going to have to do more than I thought to put in the pickups. The push/pulls on this have a printed circuit board soldered to them and the pickups have a "quick connect" plug that goes to the board. Not at all like my Custom where everything just went directly to the pot terminals.

So I'm thinking I need to just get a whole new set of pots and set them up the way I want. I'm going to go for a phase flip and master coil split, which means the current stuff needs to come out; either completely or, at the very least, the push/pulls.
