I finished building this last night and have been running the burn-in all day. Can't tell you how sick I am of listening to the pre-record dry guitar track I loop. I have the amp connected to a Weber MASS200 attenuater but I can still hear it.

This one is headed to Guitar Player magazine for a product review. They asked me to ship one last year but I never had a spare I could part with. It's going to them come hell or high water. I hope to finish applying the tolex to the cab this weekend.

I now have to build a Havoc (150 watt, quad KT88, ultra-linear).

Your work looks so amazing! Sheer elegance. I can't wait to read the review.

Thanks, guys! It's a pretty busy amp with a log going on inside.

I'm now having a local cabinet builder do the woodwork for my head cabinets. This is a huge time saver for me, but I'm still building all the other style cabs. He's a master cabinet builder who's work exceeds my expectations. The raw cabinets are just beautiful. It's a shame to cover them with tolex. One of the unfortunate aspects of this is that people can't see to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into these cabinets. They are not just boxes to hold the amps. They are works of art unto themselves.

All part of the "Soul Tramp" experience.

I'm toying with the idea of sending it in a Zebra wood cab. I have to give it more serious consideration. It may be best to use a more conventional tolex cab.

Any suggestions? Drew is in for the blonde (which is one of my favorites).

My vote is for that cabinet - that is gorgeous!

I would send it in black, but that's me. You could/should also send pictures of the other finishes, and definitely include a shot of that zebra.
But sending the zebra would certainly make an impression.

Gorgeous... I will soon be at the point where I can get started on my amp build... This inspires me.

The wood head shell conveys... a certain brand image. Tolex conveys another.

I checked out your website, and in my opinion you have a strong brand image that merits reinforcement, so I would not send it in the wood shell. The shell is gorgeous.

In addition to reviewing the amp, they are reviewing the amp builder. If the blond tolex is you, I would send that. However, that zebrawood cab is gorgeous too, and as was already stated would make quite an impression.

Part of what sets you apart from other amp builders is that you are an excellent craftsman. What you send for a review should reflect that.

I get "emotional" whenever I see our Soul Tramp's ads in the back of the magazine. When he gets a full review, it will be outstanding !

I will one day have a Soul Tramp creation.

Black, or that ultra sick dark green..(which looks black at first/from afar, but shows it's greenness when a bright light hits it...ya know, like M stuff..:naughty:)

I guess it depends who your target market is. The zebra wood cab is beautiful but to me is says "quality showpiece amp for home use" as it is something that would get quickly beat up at rehearsals and gigs.

Is the Havoc Major influenced?

The answer to that question is yes and no.

No, it is not influenced by any specific amp. I designed the Havoc to be a high power pedal platform.

Yes, I used the ultra-linear power amp design from the monster amps of the late 60's; amps like the Ampeg V4 bass amp and the Sunn Coliseum PA amp. This design power amp produces massive clean headroom.

This is an amp that could make a Fender Twin hang its head in shame. The ultra-linear power amp, fixed bias, quad KT88, and MASSIVE Mercury Magnetics transformer (they look like they should be hanging from a telephone pole) are the trick to this amp. In order to keep the amp from being a One-Trick-Pony, I add a second channel (foot switch & relay controlled) that engages a cascading gain stage. This lets you channel jump from clean to O/D.

Later tonight I'll post a couple pics of the trial fit.
