I have and individual who has contacted me in regards to my fs/ft trade ad for my 2012 R8. It's a PRS Singlecut Semi-hollow body. Here's the link of his guitar:

PRS SEMI HOLLOW LIMITED FS/FT

It looks killer but I can't figured a few things out about it and am looking for some help from those of you who have PRS guitars.

1) It's supposedly 1 of 90 produced semi hollow guitars with no f holes. I can find a little but not very specific information about them.

2) The back of the of the headstock is signed by Paul Reed Smith...but it says to Bill??? Not really sure what to make of that.

3) Lastly the seller says it was produced on 01/10/2007, I'm assuming going off the info on the hang tags, but the first digit in the serial number is a 6. Which I believe indicates it was produced in 2006?

Sorry for so many questions but I've never traded over craigslist and just don't want to get burned. Any and all input on this guitar will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Semi Hollow with no f holes isn't semi hollow. Check the PRS forums wherever you can.

So...a Gibson BB King Lucille isn't semi hollow because it doesn't have f holes, or specifically a PRS without f holes isn't a semi hollow model? I owned a Warwick semi hollow bass without f holes-one of 18 iirc.

I love PRS guitars and normally would pick that, but this one comes down to a personal preference for semihollow body or a solid. Also the 25" scale length will feel and sound a little different. I also generally prefer different pickups than the Singlecut usually came with stock at that time, but you may love them.

I havent played one of these, but I have played the limited run of semihollow custom 22s with no F holes, and they sound excellent! I forget now if the Singlecut was the same, but the way to verify on the Cu22 verision was its 1/8th inch thicker than normal.

Here is an Xray someone took of their Limited SemiHollow SC, with no F holes, when it arrived back when they were coming out:

Thanks for the info. I posted the same question over on the PRS forum and it seems this one is not as valuable as the seller states...so I'm not sure at this point.

Yeah, its definitely not worth $3500 in my book. It might have been when they first came out and it was about your only choice of a semihollow PRS.

I hadn't really paid much attention before but that one doesn't look like a 10 top in the photos either. I doubt it is, since that part of the headstock is left out of the photo....
If I were getting into that guitar in this market I'd look at no more than 2k myself, but I'm usually on the rather stingy side of things. Even so, I have to say monetarily, I wouldn't do it.
If you were in love with the guitar and he offered $999 on top that might do it.

I agree completely...on the other hand he told me he also has a completely original 1980 black les paul custom which he has had for 30 years...sounds more like it to me...

It was produced in 2006 (may have been shipped in jan of 2007, but that serial number is 2006). Cant tell if its a 10 top as that part of the head stock is missing from the pic (there should be a 10 stamped or written on the upper right corner when looking at the back of the headstock.)

The sig doesnt really mean much. Paul tours all the time and signs guitars all the time. Its a cool thing, but doesnt add value (unless your name is Bill).

This semi hollow series isnt much different than the chambered LP's of the 2008 standard.

I probably wouldnt make the trade myself, but it really depends on how you feel about your R8, and this SC. If you dont play the R8 or it doesnt please you, then there really isnt much sense in keeping it. Maybe you'd dig the heck outta the SC, maybe not.

I can't tell from the pics, but it might be an Artist package - generally the headstock has a rosewood veneer and the top is nicer than a 10 top. Honestly, I think that guitar is worth around $2200 as a used instrument - see them for more, but not usually selling at that price. Just my experience, take it or leave it.
