New from Wizz:

Doesn’t say much about the specs. I’d be interested to see how they compare to the other recreations out there.

I have the Premium PAF clones in my R9 and love them…but these are tempting also!

I wonder if Seymour Duncan knows that a competitor is using the Pearly Gates name, and if Billy Gibbons knows his name and likeness is being used, all without permission.

Coming from Wizz, this really doesn’t surprise me.

I'd wager there is some sort of TM loophole that is being exploited being that Wizz is in Europe (Croatia?).

And IMO, Duncan deserves whatever they get ( or do not get). They have done plenty of underhanded "workarounds" themselves.*

*This does not mean that I agree with what WIZZ is doing here.

Given Billy has appropriated the term Pearly Gates in the first place I doubt he'd be able to apply any restrictions to the use of the word - especially in Europe where the legal system is thankfully way more sane than in the US.
In a similar scenario the US bike maker Specialized sent a cease and desist to a Cafe called Roubaix, they claimed it was infringing on their existing use of the name Roubaix fir a series of bikes. They had to retract with severe embarrassment as Roubaix is a town/suburb where a famous approx 109 year old race ends which is how the bike series was named in the first place.

The image is another thing.....is it in the public domain for example.

I remember Zach from Mythos pedals who is a huge Billy fan trying these out and not liking them. The neck pickup is actually hotter than the bridge. Supposedly that is true to Pearly though. I believe his thoughts on them was on one of the Dipped in Tone podcasts but which one I have no idea.

That's like saying I wonder if Scummy Dimarzio knows that his competitors are using double cream bobbins without permission.

I don't think it's that hard to get Billy Gibbons to endorse a product. Doesn't he have his own Nike sneakers and BBQ sauce?

You might be thinking of a different set (Cream T Whiskerbuckers?). These just came out.

Lol yes, but he gets paid to endorse them, and I guarantee he gets a cut of the profits as well.

Once you realise that the silly trademark application was laughed out of court everywhere else but the US you'll know just how much of the world is free to use Gibson's inadvertent colour scheme and that there is no 'permission' involved.

Ahh, but his is where we step into Trademark VS Copyright. TM is bound by your definitions, borders and the countries that respect them (which isn't many) Copyright is universal and much more broad.

Duncan would need to have a TM (maybe they do? It's searchable) before they could make any noise about US distribution and Gibbons would have the Copyright for his name and likeness so could post a C&D order if he cared to do so.

Edit: the other consideration is that whomever took that picture owns the copyright on that picture universally and could make a stink about its use as well. Certain countries have agreements on Copyright legalities so it’d be dependent on where the owner of the pic resides as to how much it matters in legal terms.

From what I saw on the Wizz facebook group, the specs on the pearlies set are high 7k neck, 8.1k bridge with alnico 3 magnets in both.

They also have a Bernie Marsden/"The Beast" tribute set in route as well.

The Paris to Roubaix. About 110 miles. Numerous sections of cobblestone. Crazy for cycling over there!

Wizz must’ve seen this thread. Looks like they’ve changed the name to Pearlies.

I’ve had the whisker buckers from Cream T.. and yep the neck is a little more hot than the bridge but that’s how pearly is.. since back when Pearly was built, they just dropped in whatever pickups they had. There were no bridge or neck pickups.. just pickups. Adjusting the heights did help a tad bit but.. other than that, they sounded great. Never spent so much on pickups before. They were close $500 a pair. Sounded phenomenal but I’m not dropping $500 on pickups again lol

With how other models of Wizz pickups sound, I’m sure these are gonna be as good as their other offerings
