Hello my name is Eric I’m new here haven’t posted anything I was wondering where to ask a question about wiring a thinline tele with Les Paul controls 3 way Switchcraft switch 2 vol. 2 tone two of the pots are 250k 2 are 500k I have a 022 cap and a 047 cap I’m gonna use a Seth Lover bridge p/up and I would like to use a vintage single coil in the neck I already have the Seth Lover but I haven’t bought the single coil yet any suggestions on what might pair well or any wiring help would be monstrously appreciated I’m not doing any coil split or tapping or anything special just basic straight forward stuff.

do you want a true single coil sound or a single coil sized humbucker?

I would like to have a true single coil sound if it wouldn’t complicate the wiring to much.
Ps thanks for the quick reply

Wiring would be the same as a Les Paul, but you would be using the 250k pots on the single coil pickup and the 500k pots on the humbucker.
I'd stick with the 022 cap on the humbucker and the 047 for the single, since humbuckers tend toward the darker side.

3-way Switchcraft makes it easy... the traditional blade type is more complex.

Thank you so much for the quick reply and diagram sir I really needed that. do you have any suggestions on what single coil would pair up nicely with the Seth lover Duncan bridge? It doesn’t have to be a high output or anything fancy just something that might sound like an old tele

I am a big fan of Duncan pickups in general, but I have no experience with their single coil models.

I am too..I think I’m gonna go with one of his vintage 54 style neck pick ups again thank you for the diagram and help. I looked on several sites trying to find a diagram that uses two vol. two tone and a 3 way toggle, hum/single couldn’t find it.

OK Guys, here's a question from the peanut gallery.
Having no experience with wiring guitars, the diagram CB posted made me have to ask.
In the diagram it shows the Red and White wires from the humbucker to be soldered together and taped off. And, it appears that the single coil has a couple of wires that don't go anywhere.
Is this just because of this "special" install? Are those wires needed in other installations?

Would those two wires be needed in a typical two humbucker install?

Just curious....

That is an edited version of the standard Les Paul graphic... just an example for the controls.
On Duncan humbuckers, the red and white wires are the center coil connections, so you would connect those together and then ground them to split the humbucker.
The single coil would be only two wires, though some covered Tele pickups have a 3rd wire to ground the cover.

Ok, he cut out the out the other coil from the full diagram to make the neck pickup a single. You do see the hint of the red and white wires there. A single coil wouldn't have them.
Now, the red and white wires you see taped off, is the connection between the two coils. if no wiring tricks are to be used, then this is completely normal. If you are going to do coil taps, series/parallel, or other tricks, then you would use the red and white wire. (Quick note here: not all pickups use the same color wires.)

Thanks Guys!
I knew there was a reason.
Most folks don't put wires in things that serve no purpose.

What kind of vintage single coil? Strat, P-90, Tele, Hoffner, Kay, Tiescos, DeArmond, etc.?

A Seth Lover is a weak and dark bridge pickup. As Nick pickups will naturally sound louder and have more bass, because of their physical location, the added bass is probably not s problem but the added volume might be. Lots of vintage (or modern) pickups will be considerably louder than a Seth Lover.

No, right cat. I had an 87 X type that some of the bolts were metric, and some were standard.
Does your L6s have the solid bridge or is it like my '77 in the thumbnail. Don't see these old guys very often.

Mine's the much maligned (falsely) harmonica bridge by Schaller.
