If America turns into a country where people are walking up and down the streets with assault rifles because they think they're in danger, then I am converting to Buddhism, moving to Japan, and forgetting I was raised and have family here. And I actually mean that. It's not like "oh well so and so won the election, I'm moving to Canada." The self-defense paranoia is a perfectly reasonable reason to not want to live here. It's depressing. It's frustrating. I can envision a day when it's not just the NRA members who think I'm insane for not carrying a gun.

I'm not buying it.

Forgetting you have family here because of gun laws is a shitty thing to say.

I call BS in this stunt.

I do. Because how many laws prevent criminals from being what they are?

Besides, how many machine guns have been involved in an American mass-shooting?

I'll save you the trouble. The answer is zero.

Machine guns are banned.

Machine guns aren't used in mass shootings.

Clearly the machine gun ban stops people from using them in mass shootings.

I have to admit that was swipe at all the good folks here. I wasn't intentionally trying to piss people off.

What happened at SHES was like the most horrible thing for me. So the whole gun debate is a touchy subject.

For the record, I live in Texas but I am from the Northeast. But I have no problems with conservative people who don't believe in evolution. If you believe you should have a AR that's fine too. I don't want to debate you about it.

And that my friend, is the whole meaty part of the issue for me. It horrified everyone, and brought forth incredible emotion. But calm, rational thought, delivered by the best and brightest, is the best path to solutions, not greasy politicians exploiting the nationwide emotion to serve their pet agendas.

Which unfortunately, is what we've seen so far in the political arenas.

Bayonet lugs are banned. Bayonets affixed to rifles have never been used in any recorded homicide in the US in over one hundred years.

Clearly, the bayonet lug ban works.

I can buy a full automatic weapon with the right permit. I have several class III's. Machine gun/full automatic is an ambiguous term.

They're not "banned" at all. They're restricted, but any law abiding citizen willing to go through a lengthy background check, and spend a lot of money.... "machine guns" are quite expensive... Can own one. I have friends that own them. Not banned at all.

Then why are people getting their panties in a bunch over an assault weapon ban?

Yea, but no one can afford them.

Certainly not your average criminal. I have three Class III weapons. All three are secured in my armory at work. Good luck stealing those babies.

I also store several locals Class III weapons as a courtesy. Many jurisdictions do this. Otherwise, those who are able to afford such weapons also have very expensive saves to store them in.

The reason why the answer is zero is because of the extensive background checks involved in getting a machine gun permit.

So, it seems like extensive background checks on ALL firearms would reduce the number of mass shootings in the US. Yes?

On the other hand, every heroin addict started out drinking milk. Why is it still legal?

Actually, you have a most valid point here. Most folks don't understand the difference between cosmetics/ergonomics and actual function.
