So, here's the two SGs:
Classic White:

Ebony:

The classic white is $4500 and the ebony is only $4000. Does anyone know why the white is more expensive? Is is because it's "Classic" white and not a regular alpine white?

Probably because those who want the white one are willing to pay $4500 for it, but those who want it in black are only willing to pay $4000.

In the LP Studio world the excuse is that the white one requires an ebony fretboard (because the rosewood would bleed into the white finish) and hence the white is more expensive.

I'm not interested enough to look up whether the black SG custom above is specified to come with ebony board.

My guess too. I've seen several photos of known players with the white SG, but I don't know that I've ever seen a pic of anyone playing the black one.

Its the exact same with Explorers. A white Explorer is about 200 bucks more (new, at least) than the exact same on in black.

Sucked for me, since I'm not much of a fan of the black one. Still totally worth it though.

Why doesn't someone call Gibson and ask? They should give you the scoop.
