Why don't we hear more about LP supremes here?

I've been looking into purchasing a new LP probably after the new year. I have tried two supremes that I have seen in stores. Don't see many on hand. I like the sound of the chambered body and the look of the AAAA carved maple tops and backs. I think that these are only available in the burst. If so then it would be my first burst. I like the way the back looks carved with no panels. The weight difference seemed to be about 2 or 3 pounds. This is something that I could get use to.

What are your thoughts on the supreme?

Is there anything positive or negative that I am overlooking?

I've played a few and didn't like them at all... Not to mention the gaudy appointments such as inlays, maple construction, the electronics aren't that easy to get to.. They aren't for everybody, but some folks are happy with them.

i would guess for a couple of reasons:

1) they're too much, fancy wise
2) the electronic setup is odd
3) for that price, you get a CustomShop guitar

Hello GibsonByBirth,

I own a '04 Rootbeer Supreme,
A super nice guitar never that let me down.
Mine weighs nearly 11lbs but most are lighter.
Another excellent feature is the gold fretts, some
sort of bronze metalurgy, and they are indestructable.
Super 400 inlays on a slate ebony board bloody gorgeous.

Here are my photos.

Cheers.

Beautiful Guitar MR Bill. I see that it doesn't have to be a burst to have the AAAA tops and backs.

Fenn RX what is odd about the electronic setup? Does it have to do with the fact that there are no panels on the back?

I've never played a Supreme, but I imagine because of the added maple it's brighter than a normal LP. To those who've played it, is this the case? If so, how much brighter? Any other difference in tone?

Great thread, I've always wondered why someone would buy one of these over a C/S, but different strokes for different folks. The one pictured is a beautiful fiddle, just too fancy for me. Maybe if you're wearing a tux at a wedding or something. :thumb:
How do you access the pots and switch on that guitar?

Hey All,

access to the innards is through the
oversized jackplate hole. Not really
that big a deal with a bit of patience.

Here's an x-ray

Cheers.

It's pretty much hollowed out, and it still weighs 11 lbs?

My Supreme is my number 1. Sound, looks, feel...good time for all. Mine is a 2003 early issue. I took off the pickup covers and added a poker chip (not pictured). Why a Supreme?..I dunno, just felt and sounded right for me. Bought mine used for $2,300.

Really. My thoughts exactly. Must be the maple back, but that's gotta be some heavy maple.

I tried one at Guitar Center, it felt pretty light, but I didn't care for it.

I'd put it down to the fact that it's the weapon of choice of Mr J. Brother.

Hello LPV,

Could be I snagged the X-ray off of photobucket,
when I did a search for Les Paul Supreme.

Cheers.

Ya it always shows up but p90=bfg

The supreme chamber pic I posted seems to be accepted as a supreme but gibson doesn't disclose their chamber patterns. As a matter of fact I have yet to see a standard chamber. I know they are there but I have not found any pics of one.

I think the main reason people go for them is, they look cool! Well, that's why I want one anyway.
