Why doesn't Gibson make a Traditional or Standard with a humbucker in the bridge, and a P-90/mini in the neck. That set-up seems to do well with the Futura and did well with the BFG. What would they even have to think about to convince them that it would be a hit?

I have had H-H, S-S-S, H-S-S, H-H-H and a Tele (well a couple of them) set-ups. The only guitar I have now is my old modified '73 Deluxe with the original mini in the neck, and a humbucker that coil taps in the bridge. One day I may swap the mini with a P-90, but I know I would never buy another Les Paul without that configuration. If I had to replace my LP (which I would), I would have to pass on the BFG and Futura because I personally don't care for chambered LPs. My other option is a rare signature model, so that's nope. Either I would have to find a pre-75 LP Deluxe that has the neck original, and the bridge carved out, or I would have to find one in original condition and route out the bridge pickup cavity. Don't feel bad about the pickup route though, I would route out the bridge to accommodate a Kahler anyway.

It just seems to be there should be a solid Traditional with a Floyd Rose or Kahler, and the full-mini/P-90 set-up. That's all I ask :).

Anyway, tremelo aside, I think the humbucker/P-90 set up on a non weight relieved Traditional will fly off the shelves. I couldn't even imagine the popularity of it with a nice gold-top and Bigsby.

Minus the shitty robot tech, this is as close as you're going to get. Or, a BFG?

There are a few things that I wish Gibson would make.

Mainly a USA line SG Special with the small guard and binding. I'd be all over that like smell on poo.

I have a few with SD Triple Shots on humbuckers. While it expands the range of the pickups, I'm not fooling myself into thinking it's a real P-90.

I also have some that I have added humbucker sized single coils such as a P-94. They are a lot of fun.

Through experimentation, I have found combos that work for me. I don't know that I would like it if Gibson made the decision for me.

I was with you until this point. :D

Serious question though, is the Les Paul just a looks thing for you? Once you have a Kahler or Floyd on there it totally counteracts the effect and uniqueness of the Les Paul construction method, you lose the unique string note envelope and just end up with a heavy lump with limited fret access.

Not trying to be an ass but I hope Gibson do make a model which suits you, if only to stop yet another old Deluxe being destroyed.

Ha! The Kahler on my Deluxe doesn't make my LP sound like anything but an LP. Of course most of the time I hear people freak because of a Kahler or Floyd on a Les Paul it's because I know they care more about the looks of a guitar than they do it's functionality.

I also really love a humbucker bridge and P90 neck. My original design Freestyle Del Rey has this configuration stock. The guitar in this picture has a TV Jones Powertron in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat in the neck but we'll put whatever you want in there. Our guitars are Hand Made in the United States of America. Contact me if you're interested!

I never mentioned the sound, that barely changes. What does change is the way the note decays, Les Pauls are pretty unique in that respect and that's kind of the whole point of them.

Naturally, your average Kahler user plays with enough gain to completely mask the loss of this characteristic, which begs the question, why bother with an old Les Paul at all? That surely IS a triumph of looks over functionality.

Hey it's your guitar to do with as you wish, it just seems a shame to destroy yet another one when there are countless other guitars available which would actually do a better job for less money.
