Quite fankly, Frank (<--:laugh2:) you have one of the largest collections of Historic Les Pauls in the world (next to Mike Slubowski) and you even own a Burst.

I'm shocked by your stance.
(remember someone is saying that you are one or the other...not both in this discussion)

So, are you saying that you are not a player as well as a collector?
(I remember a pic of you from the 70's playing a 3 pickup SG Custom)

Just askin' as to shed some light on my deranged mind..........

I was just messin' around with you a bit. I can't believe how seriously you guys are taking this discussion!

I actually don't play all that much anymore. Definitely more of a collector (and builder) these days, than I am a player. I just don't have the time to play anymore, but wish I did. And yes, the pics you saw from the '70s was when I was playing seriously.

I can definitely see both points of view on this topic. To use another analogy, I have hundreds of tools, but in no way could it be said that I collect them. Even though there are some that are similar to one another, they each have their own purpose. I guess the same could be said of people with a few guitars...if each is viewed as "tools of the trade", with each one bringing unique qualities to the table.

On the other hand, I suppose you could say that I have a collection of tools...even though I'm not a tool collector. From that standpoint, I'd say that someone could have a collection of guitars (defined as more than one), without that person being a collector.

In other words...I don't know what the hell I'm saying! :laugh2: :thumb: Aren't you glad you asked?

If that refers to me, I never said one can't be both.

In fact I said:

Just sayin'..
What we have here, is a failure to 'municate.

I read your posts as saying one thing, and apparently I'm not alone in my translations. You claim you meant something different, then quote yourself as saying things which back up my translations. And so it goes.

I'm inclined to believe you meant what you said. :cool2:

As far as taking things seriously: there's very little I do. Don't mistake bothering to join in and comment on something for taking it seriously.

You sure? In your previous post, about them being "your" guitars, and feeling sorry for me, you seemed to be taking this kinda seriously. And even a bit personally. I might even describe it as cranky, with a bit of a chip on your shoulder.

I have mentioned this before, what a shame we just can't all get together & have dinner & a beer or two so we can all drive each other insane face to face.

No doubt it would be very entertaining. :)

I like to call myself a guitar owner! :naughty:

I have 4 decent guitars but none of them are 'collectible' and I don't trade guitars trying to get something 'better' or consider them an 'investment'.

I have 'played' since I was about 10 but in reality though I'll never really be any good I could never imagine not having a guitar and I am more comfortable siting with it on my lap than hung on the wall. However that's were they live the rest of the time.

The trouble for them is verifying the guitar in question is real and should have that paperwork. How can they tell without inspecting the guitar?

A receipt accompanied by a photo taken with identifiers?

I can envision a few methods, but none would be as simple as requesting one.
When a place such as GC tells them that they lost it for a new R9 that should count with no need for an inspection.
My R9 came without the certificate because GC lost it, I bought it new, 1st owner but they couldn't keep track of something that never should have left the case. I would like to have it but the guitar itself is what's important to me, it has the right neck & vibe & has turned into my #1 player.

I would have to agree, and it used to be the way it was.......GC lost another COA of an R9 that I bought in '07....a quick call to Gibson.....and I had one in the mail a few days later.

Oh, BTW everyone.....after the last discussion (and since I have never purchased a guitar and not played it).............I have decided that, under the definition of others, that........I AM A PLAYER!!!!!

I'm officially changing my handle to LPPlayer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb:

(well, not really cause I'm too lazy...but, I should!) :D

To the poster above me, whom I can't quote because viewing yellow on white is akin to staring into the face of God, and I value my eyesight:

Don't do it. Collect and be proud of it. To the naysayers, I offer:

The love of music, and the instruments which make it, is transcendent. If that's over your head - sucks for you.

Nope, but thanks River.

I have to admit that I loved to play guitar LONG before I even knew people collected them....in other words, I played for the love of music.

It was actually an epiphany and a self enlightening process.
