My dad played guitar, and well i just fell in love
with the thing.
I think what did it for me was seeing Elvis on
Ed Sullivan when i was like 5
But since i was a baby my dad was sitting around playing
Hank Williams songs with my uncle and his freinds.
He also wrote his own tunes which were pretty good.
Dad was too shy to get on stage though

I guess I did not set Poll for Multiple answers and it seems no way to do that know, so you have to just pick one reason, sorry.

Hey thanks for sharing Cliff, then when you got older you left the farm with your guitar and headed for the big city if I remember correctly? ;)

For me it was and is a couple of reasons. First I love the guitar.. the sound, look, feel etc. Second, I just wanted a way to relieve stress and relax. I find no better way to do that then pulling out one of my axes and playing. And lastly to express myself.

Oh and it's FUN!!

Jeff :D

exactly it, the only way out of a one horse town
was to try for making rock music a carrer.
Some people dream of having and working on
a farm, but when you are raised on one, busting
your butt, you cant wait to find a way out of it.

No reason to apologize - if you'd see all the typos in my posts before I reread and edit them ...:D

Anyway, I voted for "love of the instrument" although the real love came later, I guess but since none of the other options would really match...

I can't really remember, all I know is that an uncle of mine and a couple of others started a band in the early sixties and my uncle took up the bass. I was under ten then and I was at my grandma's place after school every day of the week (my uncle was still in school and living with his parents) so I was exposed to "beat music" as it was called back then early on, listening to The Beatles, The Stones, The Animals, The kinks etc. - you name them and I really got into it. My uncle's best friend had his guitar at my uncle's place most of the time and I was allowed to pick it up and try to play a bit. For some reason or another I was serious about learning to play it. Start of a long story...:)

Oh, yeah: "Rubber Soul" was a big turning point for me - I really wanted to know how to play those tunes like "Drive My Car" and "Norwegian Wood", I think that's why it's still one of my favourite albums.

I saw a Epiphone SG G-300, realized that is whas the most beautiful thing I've even seen and wanted to learn play it so I could own that sexy beast.
After that I've always loved diffrent guitar shapes and constantly want diffrent styles of guitars.

+1 on the Beatles on Ed Sullivan Show. I was in my early teens. Formed a garage band that never left the garage.

In the poll I checked "For the Money, Chicks & Beer" but here is the irony. I am far from rich, divorced and had a liver transplant in 2001 from the beer. The guitars have survived all the storms. I know it's only rock and roll, but.........
