from the specs I've seen, other than having 57's instead of BB's, it would say it's pretty much like my early 2006 swiss cheesed LP standard...Am I missing something ?

Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus Solidbody Electric Guitar with Plus Top Features:

Body: Non-chambered, weight-relieved mahogany
Top: Maple plus top
Neck: Mahogany, '50s rounded style
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Pickups: '57 Classic Plus (bridge) and 57' Classic (neck)
Controls: Two volume, two tone, 3-way pickup selector switch
Bridge: Chrome Nashville Tune-0-matic
Tailpiece: Chrome stopbar
Tuners: Tone Pro's Kluson-style
Case - Black snakeskin

that said, I will probably buy one when it comes out, but i still don't get it.

It was never really out of production. Customs still did the swiss cheese thing, and solid bodies existed in Historic/VOS form.

Gibson is the king of polishing a turd and selling it to a plumber.

Their marketing people have to be the worst in the music business. Even their website is crap most of the time, with misleading or incorrect information *when it works at all*. It's actually been up and running without any major issues for the last 2 months, which has to be a record.

I would love to work in the IT or web development for Gibson, as long as I get inside deals on guitars. Funny thing is, I'd actually make sure their site worked properly.

Loki ,
Something that worked? You would probably get "right sized" for that. Corporate America has sucked the life out of many a fine thing. Maybe I overspeak though and should say "greed" in place of "America". :(

The LP traditional was named because:

1) We cant call it a "standard"...that is something else now
2) It's not a LP Classic
3) It's not a LP Deluxe
4) I think you get the point...it needed a new name.
