I remember the O'Hare crash very well, but only tazzboy's photos jarred my memory of the 727 crash. I was 7.

I was only 8 at the time, but I do vaguely remember that. As Rankelson said, it wasn't long after that incident that the DC10's were all grounded, and I remember that, too. Kind of a scary time for commercial aviation.

Jeez. It's hard imagining something that violent happening in a place that looks that peaceful.
It is a nice neighborhood. Most of the houses were built in the '20's and '30's (except for the 22 homes that got replaced for the ones destroyed). I love the Northpark area.:)

I remember it well.

Good post.
Thanks. I was more touched by this tragedy than any other (do not know why). I used to fly PSA with my dad when we lived in NoCal.

I felt this tragedy got way overshadowed (many San Diegans felt that way too). Then a person made a documentary in 2008 and it premiered in SD in 2010 ("Return to Dwight and Nile"). I have the film, and it was well done. It received a couple of awards, and many of the victim's families thought it was closure for them (those that were interviewed).

Here are some more photos of the actual aircraft (in better days):

PSA 182 (727-214 #N533PS)

In the end:

Cessna 172 (# N7711G):

It crashed at 32nd Street and Polk:

I remember it very well also, it was just a month after
my daughter was born. My brother in law lived in an
apartment not too far from there. I was living in
Mission Bay, we could see the smoke.

My girlfriend at the time was supposed to be on that flight to come visit me while I was working in San Diego.

I can't remember why we/she changed dates, but my kids are glad.
She wouldn't be their mother.....

I remember hearing about it on the news. I was in the army at that time.

Thanks for many of the comments on this.

When I was stationed at North Island, I would go to Dwight and Nile Streets every 9/25 year. Now that I am back in AZ, I go during the ComiCon week. That is how I honor those who perished in this disaster.

I went to high school with a young woman who died on PSA 182. One can only imagine the thoughts of the passengers while they rode that airliner down to ground. Very sad day.
