I would like to finish my tele project with a nice Mary Kaye blond nitro finish, but am having a hard time finding white lacquer pigment or even white lacquer up here in Canada. Stewmac or Reranch wont ship it, and all lacquers have been banned for automotive use since 1990. Anyone have a solution?

I would like to finish in nitro since I already have a bunch of clear, but I need some white for the color coat.

Woodcraft ship Mixol internationally. The postage will probably cost more than the tint...

That it did! Just received a 20mL bottle of white pigment. Have you ever used the stuff to make a Fender blonde? I'm wondering how much to mix into the lacquer.

I will be trying exactly this later in the year and will report back as to how it goes. I believe the ratio is 1 part white lacquer to 10 parts clear or something, so first some 'white' lacquer must be mixed, then diluted, I guess. I'm going to experiment by adding slowly until I have what I want (and keeping careful records).

How much did you mix into the lacquer for yours? Assuming you painted that one, that is

nah man that's just an example from google images.
I can't say exactly how much as I use a different product here. It's a white oxide powder.
I use similar dyes however for browns, yellows & cherry and I use an eyedropper (5 drops) in a cup of lacquer.
I don't know if you could dilute the stain/dye in some spirits and then wipe it on and just clear over it?

I don't know if I could do that, since the pigment has no binders in it. Its a white oxide paste/liquid pigment. I guess the motto is "test on scrap"

Here she is after the color coats are applied. I mixed 50/50 lacquer and acetone, with about 50 drops of the white Mixol pigment per 6oz. This was after 4 coats with a HVLP:

Wow, is that ever cool! Looks like pickling stain. The grain in mine stands out a lot more than the photo shows. Yeah 50 drops is less than a teaspoon. And it wasn't the most accurate way of measuring, but it turned out pretty good I think. :)

I'm new to Forums. Where do I ask this question?
Has anybody heard of Titanium white pigment softening acrylic water borne lacquer such that it won't buff to a nice gloss?
