Which recent SG standards have larger necks?

Hi All,

Wondering if I can get some help. Looking to get an SG Standard, but can't deal with slim-taper necks. Read various specs over the past several years, and sometimes they conflict. Like some will say a 'rounded' profile for a 2019, but then the Gibson archive says it's a slim taper. Not looking for R8-sized fat, but more of a medium 50's/rounded like on some USA Les Paul Standards and Traditionals.

Anyone know for sure if there are SG standard years that have that or as close to it as possible? Thanks.

Of the 5 SG Classics I've owner or played, they all had a nice medium chunky neck. Dead on for my 59 Junior. They're pretty cheap and have binding on the neck. Highly recommended.

Classic were a possibility, but I want to go with the Standard first. So 2010-11, and 2016. Thanks all!

Last question...anyone with a 2019 can you confirm that they actually went with a slim taper, and slimmer than the 'rounded' ones described above? Thanks.

I had a 2004 with a rounded neck profile. I think its 2000, not 2010 that they made that change.

That sounds like a very comfortable neck profile to me.

When I see neck specs in that ball park, it's a good indicator that I am going to like how it plays before I even handle it in person.

The thickest neck on any SG that I have ever encountered was on a 1970 SG Junior...

Wow.
Is that a deep-V like a Clapton, or just a club?

Yeah .850" at 1st fret is pretty much my cutoff point as to a minimum of how thick it should be.

My 2019 SG Standard (Sideways Vibrola) got the typical slim taper neck...
