Does the SG have heavier strings on it?I bring a Strat and Les Paul or 335 in standard tuning to every gig and an SG tuned half step down.

We are talking about electric guitars. Right? Not acoustics or classical guitars. You guys crack me up. With all the dodads and pedals and pups and amps and all that, you can make any sound you want.
I just bring one guitar any more, Henry. I also have to hump the PA to and from, so I try to keep my rig simple. I use an old '64 Deluxe and various stompboxes for club gigs, and a big British-voiced 40-watt head and 2-12 cab for larger venuesNot sure if you're wanting to have one guitar to do it all, Braz.
I think the bringing a spare guitar is a wise choice, and if one were to die on gig day, you have the other to limp thru on, well voiced to the music or not.
TBH, I don't think I've seen a gig where a guitarist had only guitar for the gig, and the most common pair is LP or 335/tele or strat.
The two can get you anywhere you need to be.
What are you using for an amp(s)?
I've seen a head sitting on and outputed into a combo amp a lot lately, so if the head dies, the combo takes over.
Recently I saw a Vox Nighttrain 15 sitting on a Blackstar.
Impressed by the Vox tones.
I take at least 4 to every gig, and play them all. Some get more time than others, but they all get played....and they are all L.P.'s!
Why? Why the hell not. Exactly as you said, some fit certain songs better than others. Take them all!
No, it combines the two pickups in series. Is louder and less bright than the standard combining in parallel, like a humbucker would be. On my Tele I am not really getting a fourth tone because I can duplicate the series position exactly by using the parallel position and then turning the volume up and the tone down.
I like having the fourth position to get the fourth tone without fiddling with knobs, but on my guitar it not an otherwise unattainable tone.

Geez, Ace! Those are BEAUTIFUL.

Mine's set up with a '57 Classic in the neck and a Voodoo hottie in the bridge. Makes it a versatile guitar-rock, blues, jazz or country.I think the most versatile is a Nashville tele
