If it's gonna be mostly country, I would lean toward the Tele or the Strat for the signature single coil sound.

However, an SG or Les Paul is perfectly fine for country too.

All I know is my black custom is at ALL of them. Anything else is subject to change. Took a chance the other night and brought out a demo guitar to a pretty big gig. Luckily it went well.
That's a great looking Ibanez, Joey! Weird PUs. How's it play and sound? As good as the old Custom?

Silly man. NOTHING plays as good as a Les Paul Custom. Nothing. As far as Ibbys go, its a great guitar. Im not sending it back and not obligated to purchase it, that should say something. These are the pickups. Pretty evenly balanced, high output. Plays like butter after a few tweaks.

Well, I guess if Petrucci and Bowen like em, they're OK. Personally, I like mahogany and PAFs the best. I guess you do too, seeing as how you like Customs. Too much weight for my wasted frame, though. SGs for me, if its humbuckers I'm playing. Or a 339, maybe, if I could afford one.

Interestingly, the Jake Bowen IS a mahogany body/maple top guitar. Granted its a toothpick compared to a LPC, but still. Thats where the similarities end. The LPC sure does weigh down after a 3 set night, no doubt about it.

You're strong, you can hack it for the tone. You and Neil S. He loves em too. What's the tone of the Bowen like, if it has the maple-mahogany sandwich?

Clapton Strat....best of both worlds.

.

I do have that guitar. I feel with that tbx circuit and mid boost its an insanely versatile set up. I cant completely jive with that wide neck, though.

The pick ups balance the tone out pretty well. Id say balanced and flat. takes well to any salt or pepper you might stomp on. Its a very articulate and clear instrument. Transparent. Quite UN colored.

:laugh2:The wonderful thing about fenders is that the parts are interchangeable. Try a MIM neck sometime. I'm personally a fan of the thick, wide necks, to an extent, but everyone has a different taste.

i like deep necks, like a LPC but not that clapton V which is wide. I have stubby hands.

Between my LP Junior and the Sparkle Jet, got all my basses covered. Also, the amplifier has a lot to do with signature sounds. There's a thousand tweaks one can make between guitars, pickups, amplifiers and pedals where we should be able to cover just about any sound/tone.

Oh, I was serious. My hands are just between stubby and long, so I kind of know what you mean - falling in love with a neck is difficult, and all guitars are different. Some of the standard MIM necks I've tried recently have been really comfortable - deep and substantial but not so much it's a baseball bat that you can't get your thumb around. I'm lucky enough so that a wide-fat neck with a soft V is also comfortable, like on the Baja tele, or the EC strat, and just takes some getting used to. Might wind up putting one on my upcoming partscaster build, I dunno

I try to rotate my main guitar so I can justify having all the stupid things but in recent years 19 times out of 20 it has been a LP and I play style very similar to what OP does but it is so hard to go wrong with a Tele. I take one every night but really use it as my slide and alternative tuned guitar. Once you get into the neck pup on a LP nothing else really compares. Actually even with my telecasters I use the neck a lot. It also sort of depends if you have another guitarist and what he plays. HBs couple with single coil give some different sonic terrains to occupy.
