Looking to buy a gift for my son. Which Epiphone Les Paul most resembles Jimmy Page's No 1 or No 2 Gibson Les Paul?

Figured if anyone would know, you guys would. Thank you for your help.

Any Epi or Gibson will need work if they are to resemble Jimmys guitars. But paruwi is right, the Tribute Plus is the one to go for, he will be very happy with one of them.

Here are two fairly good photos of a FCB if that helps but the Ebony finish is beautiful too.

Or get a honeyburst, take off the bridge pickup cover, and close enough:

(Am I the only one who at least tried to give him an option other than the tribute?)

But yeah, I'd say get the Tribute Plus. I like Vintage Sunburst over any of the other colors. It's the best guitar for the money. (The Prophecies are comparable, but don't fit the criteria here.)

Guys, he wants a guitar that looks like Jimmy Pages,..none of the ones listed so far do that.

He wants a Standard Cherry Burst WITH a pickguard.

It's not about 'what's the best Epiphone' it's about 'What looks like Jimmy Page', that's what he specifically asked for.

Tribute doesn't look like Jimmy Page, doesn't have a tear drop burst, doesn't have a pickguard,....

If I'm a kid and I want James Hetfields guitar, I don't want one that sorta looks like it, ... I want one that looks exactly like it. :thumb:

Looks not Tones. :cool::laugh2:

(besides, the new Plustop PRO is no slouch. :thumb: Which is what I linked to. )

Epis kick ass. Standard PRO and up are good. (plus he'll get the coil split with the PRO. Very Page'esque)

That's what I did. I was going for the JP #2 look.
(I've also changed the pickups, electronics, plastic, and almost all the hardware - but that's another story).

OP said they're going for looks. I've never seen a Tribute Plus that looks close enough to either #1 or #2. A Tribute may be a better guitar overall but it won't look as close to Page's LPs as a plain ol' Standard in Honey, Cherry, or even Lemon (for #1's current look) will.

Thanks to you all for your opinions. Hey, don't start fighting about this though. This is a kid who is going to be handed a nice guitar either way. He is young but if very good about taking care of valuable things. His two favourite guitar guys are Chuck Berry and Jimmy Page. The main point here is to try to strike while the iron is hot and instil a love for music while he is young, a love and appreciation he will hopefully carry with him through life. The mission I am on is bigger than just the guitar :)

Thanks for your help with this journey and continue to chime in at will.

MCAN - I really like the look of your guitar. It looks very "Pagey" to me. Oh, and looks like we are fellow Ontarians too.

I'm with Malikon on this one. Looks are important to a lot of people. So even if a guitar doesn't have all the features of something like a Tribute, it still has value because it has a certain appearance that they really like. If that wasn't the case, they wouldn't be able to sell the standards or customs.

This may sound blasphemous to some, but I bought my first Les Paul almost entirely based on looks

Hey, if "looking cool" is the buy-in, I'm okay with that. He's already a cool kid ('course this is his mom speaking) but if he 'feels' cool with the guitar and that helps keep him afloat during the hard work of learning to play, that's okay too.

Down the road, if he decides to upgrade anything we choose for him now, he'll be older and have his own $.

If he decides to give it a rest later, switch instruments, or give up altogether, I'm sure he will be left with an appreciation of what music is all about. And I'll be left with....a beautiful guitar! Might be a time for me to put down my classical Takamine (which I suck at) and learn to be a rockin' mama! :dude:

This is a great community and I am glad I stumbled upon it and thank you all for your input.
