Abandon making ANOTHER Slash model, and start working on the canned new Ace Frehley model

Id personally like to see Jack Pearson help design & build a LP. He has such a soft & unique approach, that guitar would just be awesome to play & sing like a bird.
As for who doesn't 'deserve' a sig model... Whatever.

Chad Kroeger definitely doesn't deserve one. I've never even seen him with a Gibson until someone posted that promo picture.

I posted that pic! :fingersx:

Anyway like Shifty said, Chad Kroeger does not in any way whatsoever merit a sig Les Paul.

Billy Joe actually plays Jr.'s but that fact alone doesn't make him worth a signature. Although I'm sure it sells pretty well.

had Randy lived..he would have left Ozzy as he was planning...and then in turn he would have faded into the 80's hair band scene. Should he get an LP..yes..as its a recognizable guitar...but he doesnt deserve one over Slash.

It would have been very interesting to see Randy's career had he not died. He did (according to the interviews I've read) plan on leaving Ozzy but to study classical music/guitar at the university level, not to fall into the 80s glam scene.

I think many people get caught up in what Randy could have been, and not necessarily what he was. If he were alive today and playing rock/metal he may have been able to continue to put out fresh songs/albums (IMO Iron Maiden) or not (Metallica ). Who knows. He did inspire a generation (s) of players though, but then again so did EVH. It's funny though, some people seem to get seriously offended if you don't like/put down/aren't inspired by Randy Rhoads.

As for singature models.. meh. I don't think that there needs to be (how many do we have now including epiphone models) XX Slash signature models. I know it makes Gibson money, but if it were me, I wouldn't want to become a brand like Slash has.

I heard they are getting ready to launch a brand new "Amber Lamps" signature model. Can't wait!

My favorite Green Day album is 18 years old...not exactly what I would call "today's music".

18 years huh? Kerplunk was a good album.

In my opinion, Green Day hasn't done anything to define their own sound. They sound like any other marginally successful punk band. They're fun to listen to but easily fade into any other music that's out there. If you're going to talk signature, then I think you should be looking for an actual signature sound.

Jimmy Page has a signature sound.
Slash has a signature sound.
Pete Townshend has a signature sound.
Frank Zappa has a signature sound.
Alex Lifeson has a signature sound.

Randy would have faded? How many people were playing like Randy in the late 70's and early 80's. He wasn't creative? He had his own style! You need to go back and listen to the Suicide Solution solo off the Tribute album!!!

lets think of another classically trained guitarist who blew some peoples minds and influenced many......:hmm:........oh yes..I got one...hes the big fat alcoholic cokehead also known as Yngwie "J" Malmsteen. And where is he today..yeah he's still playing..thats about it. But what hes doing is not meaning much today. As far as Randys creativity..yes he had his own style (as does EVERY guitarist...except Vito Bratta), but...in 2 albums..his playing wasnt fresh enough in the second one...almost as if they recorded it at the same time. Slash is a washed up sellout that got a lucky second chance break...since illusion he hasnt done shit on the guitar..but between appetite and illusion..there was a lot of growing in the playing, but its not so much the playing that makes him deserving of the Paul...its his help in the ressurection of the guitar (oh great..now im gonna get bombarded with..where did it go? It never went anywhere....I guess a lot of people were in hibernation between 78 and 87). EVH from VH1 to Fair warning..there was a lot of growth there. All Im saying is...a lot of people have this faith in Randys playing and give him praise for something he didnt have the chance to do. He could have grown OR he could have stayed the same. Based on early quiet riot to Ozzy..to me it looked like he would have stayed the same. But this thread is not about Randys playing...I believe he deserves a Les Paul for his contribution to music and Ozzys career..but so does Slash (Maybe not 4 but at least the AFD and maybe a Perry/Slash model).

Couldn't agree more. I think the guitar itself is great, but having MF's name attached to it (no offence to him, I'm sure he is a very nice man) just ruins it.

why didnt they just call it the Gary Moore model?

I nominate Springsteen. If Slash can get one for not playing a Gibson on Appetite for Destruction, then the Boss should have one for not playing Les Pauls at all.

On a different note, today's music is crap.

I think Them Crooked Vultures, Eagles of Death Metal, Queens of the Stone Age, The Black Keys, The White Stripes, and The Kills and a whole heap of others are pretty damn good bands. :dude:

None of 'em play LPs exclusively, but all of 'em make pretty kick ass music. Maybe I have crappy taste. :hmm:

It's as if you're implying selling VOS versions of a Maxx '59 replica is wrong.

I'm "implying" that it's bogus to offer an AFD Slash model when the guitar he used wasn't a Gibson.

A real replica* wouldn't be affordable or attainable to most fans even if there weren't copyright infringement issues. Gibson is doing a public service parting fans with their money.:)

*Did I just type that?

Them Crooked Vultures, Foo Fighters, AX7, Bullet for my Valentine, Muse, Velvet Revolver and many others put out awesome music regularly. Just because music is changing doesn't make it suddenly 'crap'.
