I'm planning to have the body of my '64 Strat refinished fairly soon and am curious to get some opinions from this section of the forum as to which color you would go with. I have my own favorite, so it's not like I'm just going to pick the winner of the poll, but if I had done the refin a couple of years ago, I probably would have picked something different than what I'll likely go with now. I thought this might be a good way to see if anything jumps out at me that for some reason I hadn't given proper consideration. Sort of an online version of thinking out loud. :)

Based on the thread that @Bill Hicklin created a couple of years ago, I have a feeling I know which way this will go, but everybody loves a good poll. Apparently, there's a maximum of 10 options for polls here, so I'll list my favorites in order from my current favorite to tenth favorite. I had planned to list them all, plus "something non-traditional" and "R.A.," but oh well.

The guitar in question has a dark Brazilian rosewood laminated fretboard with clay dots. I have a nice repro mint green guard for it that I'll put on once the work is done, but it currently has a '65-'67 parchment one. The body was refinished in a pretty thick poly in the '80s and I've always sort of wanted to get a better job done.

Thanks for humoring me!

Oly white for me with a rosewood 'board. If it had a maple fretboard I'd go sunburst.

I chose Daphne only because my first 3 colors are not listed
Sherwood Green
Shell Pink
Graffiti Yellow

EDIT-After reading the OP I would not choose Graffiti Yellow.

Shoreline Gold with the green guard and cream plastics. Even prettier if it had a Maple board.

Thanks for the input so far. Here is the guitar for a better visual. Like I said, I have a mint guard for it to replace this one which is a year past vintage correct for this guitar (although I believe I've heard of parchment guards on late '64s before).

I want a 64 in sherwood almost bought a refin and chickened out and bought my 70 original for half the price. I often think of using it as a trade. There's a 56 Sunburst I want but it's severely overpriced. I think any color would be cool except red. I just don't like red strats.

I'm the same with red. I only included Fiesta because I like the way in pinks out when it fades. Dakota would have been one of the bottom ones for me.

Are you aware of what were considered custom colors and production colors in 64?

Believe it or not black with maple cap wasn't normal in 70. That's why mine looks as if it was painted over a white body, which it may have been. Cbs era anything went. They'd grab a Sunburst off the line and paint it white if they had an order. Hence the color over color in the custom shop. But back to the colors for that year, that maybe would help? For instance if they weren't doing say sonic blue in 64 you wouldn't want to do that. You know what I'm sayin.

I'm pretty sure the color chart that I posted in the first reply to the thread included all of the options for the late pre-CBS era. The late '60s added in a few more such as CAR and a couple of others. Ocean Turquoise, maybe?

I'll be psyched to see what you decide. Have loved that guitar since you first posted it. Who's doing the refin, or have you not decided yet

Thanks! Not 100%, but I have a couple of leads.

I voted Daphne. However, I think you should go with Sonic or Daphne with a little bit of aged clear. Those 2 colors show age well. Parts shadows would be a nice touch too. It will give you the same look as your Blue SG.

I picked Daphne Blue because IMHO it looks great with a dark rosewood board. I'm also partial to Fiesta Red with rosewood. I would also research how to age whatever custom color you go with. On my Cunneto Strat, when i removed the back plate, the color difference between the original Daphne Blue finish that can be seen under the plate versus the aged color on the rest of the body is pretty dramatic.
