I'd guess you'd move up to a 1/2" then?

it's a big leap from 3/8 (4mm) to 1/2 (12 mm). can i do single coils with that?

Depending on the template that you use, 1/2 inch will not have the proper corners and the pup will not fit unless you dremel or route the corners after without the template.
Forget about the bearing that will burn out after a few routes anyway due to the small bearing diameter and choose a guide bushing instead.
Always "hog" out the hole with a larger diameter bit and then finish up with the finer/more delicate bit.

i've seen the guide bushings. what is the correct size to look for? the shank is 1/4" the bit diameter is 3/8" i am quite new to this. the router does a good job. i have the neck p90 route perfect. i made the template myself. i may need to do another as i ruined it abit while doing the bridge route. halfway there!:naughty:

I built my jigs with oversized cutouts to make up for the off set of the bushings.
The bushings usually come in sets. you will have to test and tweek as necessary.
