I was never the best, at blowing other guitar players away skill wise . I shyed away from that stuff.
Twasn't my thing, I was into writing & improvisation, with guys that were like minded.
I couldn't have cared less about who could play the latest & coolest riffs.

had no idea so many of you started out playing trumpet / cornet there must be something going on here, so many brass players go on to play guitar.

Another trumpet player here, 2nd chair Nat. Youth Orchestra, RSM VIII then life got in the way and it sort of fizzled out. Keeping up a reasonable standard on a brass instrument like the trumpet demands a lot of dedication, a lot more than I could give.

Guitars on the overhand, missing a few days playing here and there makes little difference.

Interesting to note one of the grade 8 pieces was the 1st or 3rd movement of the Haydn Its now, I believe grade 6.
standards are definitely going up

Must be something to the trumpet, my brother, an accomplished bass player, & once trumpet player, to this day keeps time & pitch
playing a virtual trumpet. Quite amusing to hear him making all them trumpet less lip farts.
