I like my Rock hard and raw. Those days are over! I often wonder why young white boys have dropped Rock for Rap? The reason is Rock is "soft"! Rappers exude menace>most of it is put on-but they still scowl> I look at the popular Rock nowadays and I see bland. Kings of Leon-no agression. Foo Fighters-lovable Dave yukking it up. Black Keys are cool ,but still no "danger"! WTF!

I know when I play I feel "mean"! I play "Garage-Punk-R+R>" I don't get to play out often. When I do, I "joke" with the crowd alittle. That's it . I don't want to be their "buddy!" I want to menace, shock and confuse. That is what Rock was when I was young. I HATE the commercials where "soccer mommy+daddy" are playing faux guitars with the brood! True R+R should be played with abandon. It is a "lifestyle." I respect Jimmy Page for never distancing himself from his "unruly" past. He stated that the hedonism helped create the music. I want my Rock>glassy eyed+wild. PG 13 Rock is not real Rock! GIMME DANGER!:dude:

I was going to see GG right before he died. He played Asbury Park NJ. I was "nervous " about seeing him. I never made it to the show. I regret that! GG was a sh@t-head. I would have thrown a punch at him. I used to see hard-core bands all the time. There was excitemeny in the air. You earned your concert tees back then. You just might get alittle bloody. Those were the days. I have to get a Jabbers album. The Murder Junkies were crappy-cool! With GG as the front-man you didn't want the music to be stellar just driving!

I love Metal and Punk. I saw DRI and Gwar what a great Punk-Metal show. Venom+Black Flag was another. I like "attitude." Megadeath(first US<Slayer(Haunting the Chappel)>Metallica (Ride the Lightning w/Cliff)were great in their primes. True R+R anger. Exodus and Abbatoir were also lethal live!

My old band played a show in San Francisco opening up for Danielle Stampe's burlesque show a few years back. She was "Slymenstra" in Gwar.

There's still bands that would bring back the "danger" to rock, but most people seem to soften their edges to gain popularity and such. Rock is NOT dead. Long live Rock! :D

Great thread btw.

Amen Geo. I hate most Rap. I like old Public Enemy>I saw them live it KILLED! The Chronic and some old Snoop is cool! They are posers. Singing about name-brands all the time:laugh2: I prefer ACDC with Bon. Brian is great ,but Bon had danger. That is probably why he is dead:hmm:

Danger is dead. Since corporates have bought the record labels, all they are interested in is safe bands that will make them lots of money for a little while until they are all used up and then they go find a "new" band to mass market. And these days, so called "musicians" don't really care caused all they are interested in is "fame", money, and pussy.

These days if you want danger in rock, you have to find guys doing it independently of a major label. It's almost always the underground that produces bands that inject some new vitality into rock and roll.

It just gets to me the lack of aggro. I was alot "meaner" in 92. I was 27 and 'hungry". It helped having blue-balls< I didn't get much love playing the stuff I played. Nothing like sexual angst to amp you up. I'm very tame now. I jump the wives' bones at least twice a week. I play with my lovable cat while listening to Coltranes'-Blue Trane on vinyl. When I plug in with my drummer I feel EVIL> I have to restrain myself from putting my guitar thrugh the drum-kit. I still down-pick everything. The old "anger" comes right back. I guess I'm not "tamed' yet. Thank the R+R Gods!:dude:

It is sad. You can tell when bands love to play. I don't see that anymore. Sure everyone wants adulation, but you should love playing your guitar more.Page sure enjoyed the spoils, but you could tell the music "got him off" more!

I have to hit some local Philly clubs soon. I need to beg for some gigs anyway. Maybe I will see some 'hungry' young bands. I hope so!
