Where have all the people with a sense of right and wrong gone?

This story made me think, what happened to morals and values?

Boy with Asperger's, 11, in hospital for three days after school bullies attack him in toilets - AOL Parentdish UK

Reads as follows

"A little boy with a range of disabilities, including Asperger's, was attacked so badly by a gang of bullies at his primary school that he spent three nights in hospital.

McKenzie-Graye Evans was reportedly punched and kicked by three boys who followed him into the lavatories at Edge Hill Junior School in Stapenhill, Stafforidshire.

His mum and dad say the latest incident is just one of many bullying episodes McKenzie-Graye has suffered in the four years he has been at the school. They say staff at Edge Hill have failed in their care of duty towards him.

McKenzie-Graye was left so badly bruised by the attack in the toilets that he developed severe infections and bleeding under his skin. Concerned doctors feared the infection could spread to his bones, and hospitalised him.

The youngster's outraged father Shane Robinson told the
Daily Mail: "He came home on his last day of school and could hardly walk because he was in so much pain. He spent three nights in hospital before being discharged and he's at home on medication now, but he still isn't right at all."

He said that McKenzie-Graye had initially just endured name-calling, shoving and pushing at school, but in the last year, his abusers had started to become more physical.

"Because of his special needs McKenzie-Graye will react - never in a violent way, however - and they laugh at his reactions," his dad said, adding that the little boy had been so upset about what was going on at school that he had spoken of suicide.

McKenzie-Graye's mum, Nadine Evans, said her heart had been broken over the attack.
"He doesn't deserve this. He's seen as an easy target because he's vulnerable. To see him upset, distressed, panicking and with physical injuries where yobs have attacked him is not what any parent ever wants to see," she said.

"He only went to that school because we struggled getting him into a special needs school. It makes me so angry to hear my boy talking about suicide at his age."

Staffordshire Police confirmed an assault was reported and said they had visited the alleged attackers and spoken to them and their parents:

"We gave the boys and their parents suitable advice and this course of action was agreed by the victim's mother," a spokesperson said.

However, McKenzie's school said they were unaware of the attack or that McKenzie had been in hospital.

"This incident was not reported to any member of staff on the day or subsequently and I am very sorry to hear the news that one of our pupils has been taken into hospital as the result of an incident," said Michael Manger, the head teacher.

This is SUCH a shocking story. Let's hope he makes a fully recovery, and settles into a happy school environment next term."

You know something, if i had found out my kid had done this bullying, i'd have killed him. At my primary we had a guy who had some mental disablities, and some people took advantage of him, and made fun of him. But i made friends with him, and he was one of the nicest people i have ever met. Just a real top bloke, he ended up going to a secondary for children with special needs, but i miss him man, he was such a nice guy.

Sigh.

Makes me wonder man, makes me wonder.

A sad tale, to be sure. But kids did messed-up shit when I was in school 50 years ago, and for thousands of years before that, I'm quite sure.

I'm not inclined to take such stories as indicative of the end of a "great society" that never really was. It's just more shit as there has always been, and there are plenty of great, kind people out there. Where I live, anyway.

bad shit has always happened. but it seems it happens more often now. maybe that's the media being around more; maybe it's the slow destruction of the two parent home. Maybe it's the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Who's to say?

Yeah, I gotta agree with you on this one. The difference now is the 24 hr news cycle & social media. It takes ony seconds for news of something bad happening to get around the world. Then it takes only a few seconds more for the next report of something bad happening to replace the first one, and so on...

Look, we used to feed "gladiators" to lions for entertainment. Now we watch modern-day gladiators strap on pads & hit each other for a few hours on the weekend. Perhaps things may have even gotten a bit more civilized. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED???

That said, what those punk asses did to that kid is disgusting, and I hope they pay dearly.

Fair Point, but I do believe that what with the greater understanding of mental illness and so forth, people should be more understanding. We've come a long way since the days of Bedlam and the Willard State Hospital. It makes me sick people could do this, fvcking sick.

PS, didn't think it was 50 years since you were in school River!

50 years since I started.

Today's understanding of mental illness (is that what he has? - not sure about that) ain't all that great. You don't have to read many threads here to figure that out. Only conforming nonconformity is acceptable.

I'm going to say something rather unpopular here...

We are basically hard wired to ostracize the odd ones in the "group"...

Stopping that type of behavior requires programming against the natural instinct.

Yes, the understanding is not to the extent of Physical Illness, but 50 years ago lobotomies were given out like flu jabs. I read up on the History of mental illness when doing work experience, and we have advanced a huge amount in 45 years. Not nearly enough, there is huge room for improvement, but we're on the right track after several hundred years of punishing sufferes for it. Also, i believe Aspergers is a form of Autism, which is classed as a mental illness, not as severe as say Schitzophrenia, but one none the less.

It's great to actually have a civilised discussion on here, Thank you very much River.

I could see a contributing problem is that parents won't discipline their child for misbehaving, so they turn out like little sh!ts.
