And just because the serial number is legit doesn't mean a guitar is. Serial numbers, like guitars, can be and are faked.

if you don't think the guitar is legit, phone or email the serial # to Gibson, they should be able to tell you what guitar that serial number is for, eg '91 Black Les Paul Custom.
