Took me forever to realize that Mal wasn’t Mal anymore. The Asian chicks was the the giveaway. LZF was a little easier to figure out but I still think of them as Mal and LZF when I read their posts.

I changed my name because Roman is my sons name, he was 6 when I started here but now that he’s 17 I felt weird going by his name.

I have always wondered why “screen names” are used on some sites (like MLP) and real names are used in others (like Facebook). There must be reasons and history behind this, but IDK.
@Dolebludger It's a culture thing. Some boards have a culture that promotes anonymity. For some, that's a lure because they can reinvent themselves.

You may say, "but Bill, you use a version of your real name ?"
That's my personal choice, from the very beginnings of "Online". I figured I needed to be able to stand behind whatever foolishness I might state. Doesn't keep me "honest" per se, but it at least helps me to give things a "review" before I press Post Reply.

Here's my impression of the Backstage in 2010:

*New member signs up and asks simple, innocent question*

River rips them to shreds

New member says "WTF is your problem dude?"

The River click piles on the new guy and defends River endlessly until the new guy says F this and quits the forum

Rinse and repeat, over and over again

Fast forward a decade and people can't stop asking "Where's River"

Not my experience at all.....

I originally joined 2009 .....

I had a few run ins with River ....

Weathered the storm, became decent forum friends , got some decent guitar info from him a few times before he left....he's been back for a couple of cameo's and felt like we were still good....

Me too Tim.....

Birds of a feather ??
There were quite a few of us that didn't have that experience with him. He was as prickly as a cactus to almost everyone here. I personally had quite a few pm conversations with people after I got into it with him a few times. As big as his fan club here is/was, there are a lot of people here that are happy he's gone

Not saying he wasn't a prickly old bastard.....

Just saying for some reason we got thru it......

I was pretty douchey in my first go at MLP myself....(I know , I know....still there with a few)

I went after him on something in the Gibson LP forum pretty hard....

I believe it was a pickup wiring question from a noob...turned into a scolding....and gang bang.

I eventually realized I could've and should've handled it better (amazing how often I still do that....Shred has helped with that me a few times)

I didn't expect much, but he replied in a really understanding manner and sent me a friend request (whatever it was called back then )

And from that incident on we were good ......

We were'nt hang out buddies or anything.....but good ??

I was not a fan of River at all. That guy was a know-it-all douche canoe.

I remember one time HE scolded ME for sassing someone. I LOL’d.

That said, I bet if we sat down and had a beer, we’d be just fine.
