I know we call it '50s wiring, but when did they stop this configuration? Literally '59? I've always wondered. :hmm:

It's proven both styles, 50's and "modern" were used interchangeably in the 50's.

Proven where? It sounds familiar, but I do not recall. To the best of my recollection, I can only remember what we call 50s wiring in the 50s and into late 1968. I know they changed it to modern wiring in late 1968, and 50s wiring did not come back until around 2009....? I dunno, I could have the 2009 part wrong.

Tom Wittrock showed examples on the LPF of both types of wiring on Bursts..
That's proof enough for me!:naughty:

That rings a bell. It almost seems like the "modern wiring" was actually on 50s LPs that were pre-58? My memory is fuzzy on this one. But I thought they had settled on "50s wiring" by the time they got to 1958. I could be wrong. But I believe the dominant wiring on 50s LPs is 50s wiring, even if there were a few with modern wiring. Personally, I like the 50s wiring much better, as it adds noticeable bite in the tone. Modern wiring is too muffled / muddy for me.

Did they wire one way or the other based on the pickup readings?
