I think this deserves a thread.

As far as Gibsons go, by and large you can one from 900 dollars all the way to 6000 dollars for a Custom shop. The used market also has some prices that can fluxuate wildly based upon year, and the condition of the guitar.

But an honest question: What's your price limit on an electric guitar, specifically a Gibson Les Paul?

For years I balked at spending over a 1000 dollars on a guitar. I crossed that rubicon when I moved...to Gibson. My most expensive guitar was about a 2100 dollar project (1700 dollars for my '80 Norlin LP Custom, and 400 dollars for the refret), and to me that's about as good as it gets.

But that isn't universal by any means.

So....the question:

How much would you be willing to spend on a single guitar? And, what's the most you have spent?

I spent $3k on my R8, and $3k on my '69 Deluxe. So far... its been $3k. Hopefully down the road I'll be able to raise that "max" a little bit and get some Old Wood!

I don't regret dropping the $3k on either of these beauties, though:

I can't see paying any more than $4,000 for a single guitar. That's even pushing it a bit. I have an R9, but only because it was used! :laugh2: Most of mine were well under 3 grand.

I'd pay $10,000 if I felt the guitar was worth it.
I heard the 09' R9s would be between $7,500 - $13,500. Now I know they'll be under $7,000.
If they had Brazilian, I would have paid whatever the asking price was.

Gorgeous guitar, Jomo. Of that there is no doubt....:dude: Was that something that you wanted for a long time, or was it something you had made for you, or was it available when you happened to have the funds?

I got my R9 used a couple of years ago for 3500. By far my most expensive one.

I'd pay that much (and would probably pay less than half of that) for a personally built guitar.

I dunno, man. I'm at the point where if it got to that level, I'd probably contact someone like Roman Rist to make me the guitar of my dreams....

(but, that's just me.)

I'm hoping to be able to find a players grade 53-55 GT for around $20k in a few years here - assuming I'll have the $$ to do so...

Well the most I've spent on a Les Paul was $1250 for my minty 01 classic, That's not bad considering I've owned two customs, two standards, Two Special SLs, A DC faded, Junior, A BFG, a VM Studio, and the classic.

The most I've paid is $2,200.00. I really can't spend more than about $3,000.00. But as R9 knows, I'm done with buying guitars for the rest of my life now. :naughty:

I had been looking at them for a while. My buddy was going to get me one at cost at GC, which was around $3700/$3800. I never found one that I liked there though. Badhabit put this lemon drop up for sale and it was love at first site. He got it from Mark's Guitar loft, so I figured it was a good one. I think I may have sold something to come up with part of the money or something, I don't remember. It is an incredible guitar though.

I find it floats between what I want to spend, and what really happens.
I didn't want to spend more than about $3K on a Historic. Then I found my R9, it was about $3600 (used). Then I found out about Historic Makeovers. I went with the D option back then, but that still added, with freight and stuff, about $2K.
So I guess $5600 is my new cap instead of the $3000 I intended.

The only way I'd go over that is with old wood.

And I believe one great guitar is worth way more than lots of good guitars.

I'm only willing to go as high as $7k for any Les Paul but that would be a hard sell I can tell you that.

Of course I would be willing to go higher depending on "my take" in the bank heist!
Tell me you never thought about it!:laugh2:

The most I've ever spent on an LP was $2500. Probably a little more than I should've paid for that particular guitar, but I wanted it and had the funds. My other guitars were under $2K, most are were the $1500 range or less.

I think new Gibsons are way overpriced. If their price vs quality had remained constant, and allowing for inflation, we should now be getting a guitar built like an Rx, but at the price of a USA. I'm not bashing on the guitars themselves, but I just can't justify paying $3-5K for a guitar that's just gonna get beat up.

If I had $2200 today I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new standard.
But I can see myself in the future paying more for a guitar if I really felt that I couldn't live without it :D

And I payed about $600 for my Ibanez sa200 that I bought 1 and 1/2 year ago.
