$3,000 is the most I paid so I guess that's a good indication. I have seriously considered some used R9s in the 3,600-3,800 range, and probably would have gotten one if I didn't have some concerns about the economy.
I spent $2300 on a 2003 Gibson Les Paul Standard Premium Plus - the one's with the AAA maple top. This was back in 2003 and it was a little discounted due to a slight nick (it has many more now...).
I haven't had any regrets since other than the fact that most guitars I pick up now can't hold a candle to the feel and quality of that guitar.
there was a time when a USA Standard would have satisfied me. but then i got on here and other forums and learned about the Historics. i thought it was all hype. i played 2 at GC and was not impressed. then I played one at SA and.......WOW. i understood. and i bought it immediately.
i think that to a casual player, a Historic will seem marginally better than a USA. but to someone who knows LPs, the cost of a Historic is a bit more justified (in general). that being said, gibson's prices are ridiculous.
but I REALLY want a brand new one, you know, one that was MINE ALL MINE form the get go. I like the GC/MF "g0"s, but I don't care for the plain top and the bad @ss maple flame top RI's are just WAY WAY WAY over the top pricewise.
I paid $750 for my VM Studio. That's about as much I'm prepared to go. Between the house, saving for kids' college, and other things, it's difficult to justify spending any more than that. Thing is, if I played well enough to have paying gigs, where the gear would practically pay for themselves (a good rule a buddy of mine taught me), then I can see dropping two large for a guitar. But as it is, I play at home. In the evenings. Quietly. After the kids have gone to bed. And if I do play for an audience, I ain't getting paid for it. In fact, the way I play, I ought to be paying people to sit and listen to me.
It depends on the quality of the guitar and how it plays. The most I have spent on a single guitar is 2500.00 but I would go up considerably higher if the right one came along.
I've never paid more than $1250 for a guitar and all but my LP are Vintage pieces. Granted they were bought before the days of the internet and ebay.
I don't understand why a new USA Standard should be more than $1500? The cost=quality ratio doesn't justify $2200. But I don't set the prices and if people are willing to spend over 2 grand on a LP Standard, then my bad luck.
If I was to get another LP I'd probably want to be looking at R9's, but $5000? I'm extremely hard on my main guitar, especially if I start playing out again. $3400 for a used R9? I'd have to be damn sure that axe is "The One."
4100.00 for my R-9. the others around 3000.00. But If I had seen one that I just had to have about 5500.00. But lately all I've been hearing is, "why do you need so many guitars". Thank god for loud amps.
It just depends on how much I like it and how much I have to spend at the time. The Custom '68 was ~$3500 (GC pricing), the R9 was $5K and the R6 was $2500. All were purchased new. I also paid about $3200 for the PRS, which was new but had been around the shop for a while. I never felt like I got ripped off for any of them.
Of course, it was only because of the insurance money that I was able to get the R9 and R6, so keep that in perspective. I thought the R9 was outrageously priced when I first looked at one and would not have bought it otherwise. I played it and loved it. Same for the R6 at half the price.
I probably would have been fine with a $1500 LP, but I just wanted to go for the gusto when I was buying. My wife sure wishes I would have bought something cheaper, but then again she's driving the nice car and doesn't usually complain!
my price limit peaked 7 years ago when i bought my 02 new for $1650...thts it no more for me. i dont ever plan on spending what theyre asking for new ones today
if something happened to mine and i needed to shop id go used.
No limit. If I want it..I get it. I'll work my arse off and I'll buy that god damn guitar. If I REALLY put my mind to something, I can achieve it with ease.
The most Ive paid for a guitar is $2999AUS...a LP Standard for $1900 less than its retail..not a bad deal eh?
