What's the most amount of money you've spent on gear that you couldn't try out?

Beyer's Music. This was a Mayones (I'll do a NGD thread later, probably be a little while before it gets here), so built in the EU. It was much cheaper to buy from them directly rather than from a dealer here after I called a bunch.

I got 2

Custom Shop Charvel and an ESP built by the head of the custom shop.

The Charvel I would have hung on the wall even if it was the biggest piece I'd ever played, because I destroyed my first guitar trying to make it look like Jake E Lee's guitar. That being said, as much as people love the import Charvels, I wasn't too worried about one from the custom shop.

The ESP was built by the dude that is president of operations at the Japanese custom shop. Having seen some of the crazy stuff that comes out of their shop, it was still so much nicer than I expected.

Well, other than the pedals already mentioned and eliminated from consideration:

I once bought a guitar that I not only didn't play first, but which I hadn't actually seen at such time as when I paid for it.

I'm talking here about that Telecaster I had Dave build for me:

I only ever buy 'pre-loved' gear and most of it I don't play until it turns-up at my front door via a courier.
The most I've ever spent on a guitar was £1475 for my '76 Standard, but like everything I buy I do a lot of research and make sure that I'm 99% sure I can move it on without any kind of loss if it doesn't work for me.

I'm too poor to gamble much :)

2400€ on this 10 Top PRS Tremonti I saw it online at MusicStore in Cologne, asked my friends at Thomann if they could match the price, and they said impossible, go get it from them quickly. That was the first time I ordered a guitar elsewhere, while being in Treppendorf.

I spent $1,439 delivered on a new Blueridge BR-180 w/case recently that I bought online from LarkStreet Music.

No regrets, it sounds and looks great.

in the mid 80s , I got a deal on a Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000 __ for $1900 . bought it because it was one of " the next big things "

I would never spend that much on a guitar , without having it in my hands first

I spent 1800 on my SG from sweetwater. I got lucky. Its the perfect SG. No neck dive what so ever and the playability is amazing.

$1300 on my Allen Old Flame 4x10 kit. That was 20 years ago, never looked back. Super Reverb on steroids.

I dropped a few pennies over four dimes on a 2013 R9 that @mfolet picked out for me at the HOG. I have to say that was a really fun experience. I am indebted to him in a way that I probably cannot ever repay.

He was great and so was everyone at HOG. I think he auditioned about 4-5 different R9's for me, over a few days. I couldn't have picked a better one myself.

That guitar has been gigged since the day it arrived and it's still my #1 (with the Baja Tele a close 2nd).
