Freddie, do you find any efficiencies in cutting all the frets ahead of time and placing them in the numbered block? I did this when I first started fretting guitars because that was how i was taught. These days, I just cut the wire, add glue to the slot and press/hammer them in and then do the next the same way. One fret at a time. I have not found any real difference in time other than how many times I move in and out of the fret press.

PS: Nice Cat!

I've been called a lazy bastard. But I disagree....I prefer "efficient" bastard!
When I do an operation with a tool, I do all of the frets with that tool then move on to the next operation and so on.
So here, I have a roll of fretwire.
With my dykes in one hand I cut them all to size first.
Put away the roll.
Then with my fret tang nippers I undercut them all.
Then I place all the frets in the board at their positions and press them in one after the other without the neck leaving the press.

Yeah, I find it more efficient than completing each fret, switching tools for every operation.
But....I'm a lazy bastard!

PS. Theodore says "I know" :)

but when i find myself feeling pushed, i back off and come back later. it stays fun that way.
I'd edit that: ...but when I find myself feeling buried by how messy my garage/workshop has become, I back off and... :D :D

My teeth hurt just reading about those :D
We decided to make a padauk pickup ring for this weird firebird build, so this one is effectively wrapped up. I do still need to make a truss rod cover and a back plate for the switch, but those are minor tasks. The hard work is done and it sounds really good! Three independent volume controls with a master tone...kind of a weird setup but it's what my uncle wanted and it works well.

That. Is. GORGEOUS.

oh yes....and the messy workshop thing
Actually, right now I've got piled on the workbench the raw materials for a big two axis use-your-router-as-a-jointer gizmo, since a couple lengths of galvanized pipe and some skate bearings is a lot less expensive that hitting up Grizzly for a nice big cast iron jointer. :D

I have all the raw materials (and hardware) to build two full carved top 22 Specials with figured tops and all the trimmings, and also enough high carbon steel to equip a small army (or chefs) with knives and/or swords, but I haven't done squat since September. I've been in a funk of some sort after finally wrapping up the Bushido Les Paul and haven't had any drive to make anything

I think to get out of my funk I'm going to try my hand at something different, and forge some chisels for woodworking :)

Just purchased a 1.5" diameter by 36" long round bar of O2 tool steel, and gonna see what I can bang out.

Make some tools, and then use em to make a couple guitars toward springtime.

I feel ya, Chris. Been in somewhat of a funk myself, but I have been gathering materials for another bass build, multi-scale this time. :)

I'd love to see how you do on the chisels. I just bought a new set of Ashley Iles bench chisels, but I'd really like to pick up a couple of dedicated paring chisels. Maybe we could strike a deal? :D

I hate building range hoods.

I hear that...gotta do something to pay the hobbies.

I had to build one a few months ago, it was so dumb. The thing was massive, I'm surprised we were even able to get it up onto the wall. And then we had to wrap it in white oak...I pray every night it doesn't come falling off the wall!
