What's on YOUR CNC right now?

Well, I don't actually have a CNC (or room to put one), but this project made me wish I did. It would have been so perfect. Making the template took a fair bit of time, and routing each piece with a plunge router took over an hour.

I need to try to find a CNC job shop here in Seattle, and learn to create the files they can use

An interesting use for my 3d printer. I had to clean up some routes on an old guitar. I printed an adapter with a pilot for my bosch colt, then printed templates for the routes. Clamped it to a table and it worked rather well.

Printed guard, pickup cover, back cover, and there will be a volume knob. All in PLA. I would have done ABS, but all I had was bright red and green.

The final back cover will have a wireless system integrated, but i haven't figured out which one to buy (one of the cheapie ones, but i want it not to suck too bad).

After polishing up the prints, i think the shade of purple works fine as is, and i wont bother painting them. Ill print a few spares to stick in the case.

The tuner buttons are also printed, but from shapeways in clear acrylic. We'll see how long they last. They cost about $7 to reprint, so its not a big deal when they break.

Bridge is cnc'd from purpleheart with an aluminium saddle. Saddle will have to be grounded.

Weirdly, this is the second guitar i ever made - by hand, Barnaby style, no CNC. You cant see it in the pic, but the precat nitro clear is spiderweb cracked all over. Wasn't happy over the acrylic, maybe it hadn't fully cured. The neck back which is just clear over the grain filler has no cracks.

My old dust shoe was crap so I printed a new one. 100% infill...took right around 36 hours to print both parts. The brush component attaches to the router/hose component with magnets. Everything is printed in PETG for a little additional strength. Ran out of white early on so had to continue the print in black...it actually came out looking pretty cool.

Haven’t tested it on a job yet but it feels super solid and is a much cleaner solution.

Shame. Wish I could get another but alas this one will have to do. Here is my second go at cutting MOP. Wow slow as molasses but nice clean cuts for sure.

That's exactly what my next project is going to be on the CNC! well after I fix my CNC. What did you do for the dust? Did you wet it down before cutting? I have to get a new collet and some tiny bits. but am excited to see your results.

What kinds of glue did you use to hold it down, super glue?

I just wore a mask and vacuumed up the pearl dust after. I should probably vacuum while I'm doing it or trust my dust shoe. I wanted to watch it because this is only the second time I have cut pearl and wanted to make sure I didn't break a bit doing something stupid. The bits are pretty expensive. I want to try to find an alternative.

Maybe I should start a subform called "this would be on my CNC if I had a CNC."
