Just bought a new guitar so I need to clean up the old one to sell. What's best to clean off sweat marks and grime?

I have this stuff called "Gumption" which is like mild cutting compound. Its intended use is for the kitchen - benchtops, stainless steel, cookware, vinyl floors etc

I know you have to be careful with Nitro finishes so I'm wondering what is best?

cheers

For nitro, use naphtha........What guitar is going to go?

And of course, throw out or launder right away the rag(s) used with the naphtha.

(MLPers, please add details using naptha, as I don't feel comfortable in giving guitar cleaning tips, ie, fretboards, etc.)

Nowadays I use a dry toothbrush to clean my fretboard.

well to clean the frets I would choose scotch pads ( they look like the green side of a sponge, but alot more coarse.) Best part is that they don't leave a residue. Then I would polish the fret board with clear danish oil and wipe off the excess with a rag or thick paper towel. Then I would clean the body with a clean rag and there you go a clean and maintained guitar. Yes, I know how annoying that grime can be on the frets.

I wouldn't scotchbrite my fretboard.

Dunlop 65 guitar polish and a soft old White cotton T or microfiber cloth will clean the whole guitar just fine. Let it sit a second on the grimes fretboard;l; where applicable

Naptha. Also known as Ronson or Zippo lighter fluid, or Coleman camp fuel.

It will not hurt the finish.

It will get rid of the grease and grime and sticky stuff.
