NELPoG

Norlin Era Les Paul of Gibson

Rolls off the tongue too.

Edit: Or just NELP for you lazy farks. One syllable.

Many Norlins still must be built by 50s workers who made the most favourite Gibsons.

Too many syllables. :)
Still not as many as "Pre-CBS Fender Stratocaster".;)

Anyway, a Gibson LP, is a Gibson LP, no matter when it was made. But, IMHO, there's nothing necessarily wrong with calling '70s-early '80s-era Gibson guitars "Norlin-era" guitars, because no matter what, guitars produced during those particular years are very different from the respective pre/post eras. Not that, that's a bad thing?

My point still is, we AREN'T referring to our guitars as Gibson here. People here say they call their guitars Gibsons, but it just isn't the case. This is why I am saying we call our guitars Gibson. If you want to stop saying Norlin, that is even better. Seriously, I think I can find a post from everyone here where they refer to their guitar as a Norlin, leaving Gibson out entirely.

The main problem is not referring to them as "Norlins", but more-so all of the negativity surrounding that particular name/legacy.

But really, how many people on here are confused that they aren't Gibsons?

I'm GLAD we have a Norlin section on here, I think it's the only one on the net. And I think this forum is helping to dispel the negative myths we've lived with for so long.

That is true, with me anyway. I will endeavor to only call it Gibson from now on.

Yet I'd never heard of those myths before this particular forum... Every guitar shop, every vintage shop, every person I'd talk to, none of them have ever used this term. I've always had 1. Kalamazoo Gibbys 2. Nashville Gibbys ... You can call the Kalamazoo era as vintage, whatever, but it is the ERA for me, no matter if it's 1970's or 1960's... I wonder if in like 10 years time some of the Gibsons made now will be referred to as coming from the Baked Maple Era... or something useless like that.

Get rid of the "norlin" section and move all these threads into the vintage room. It's this rooms title that adds to the confusion.

Works for me. My observation there (I am a sucker for looking at pics of old guitars) leads me to suspect that the folk most likely to be stroking primarily see these instruments as investments/status symbols.
The ones that strike me as being truly players won't really care. Anyway that is how it seems to me.
