I use D’addario NYXL 10-46 on my Standard 50’s, though I briefly messed with Gibson Brite Wires last year.

I use Gibson Vintage Reissue 10-46 on my Reissue, because the Custombuckers are pretty bright pickups and the VR’s are mellower than NYXL’s. With that said, I did put a set of Stringjoy Broadways 10-46 on it a few weeks ago and I’m really liking those; enough to pick up another set last weekend for when these need to be changed.

Been wanting to try Gibson VRs...
Although SD APH2s are pretty mellow and I have been using NYXL 11s and EB cobalt 11s and I'm pretty pleased

GHS Boomers mostly. I flip flop between 9-42 and 9-46. Great strings and made in Michigan.

Bog standard EB 10s, Rotosound Pure Nickel 10s, TI Jazz Swing 12s, Rotosound Top Tape 12s. Obviously (well, maybe not obviously ;)) not on the same instrument.

I’ve been Ernie Ball forever but I’m wondering what you all use? Anything that can help give a new tone or sound? Have a better feel than Ernie Ball?
I used Ernie Balls for about 25 years. I tried other strings but I always went back. Until I tried a set of D’addario NYXL. Now those are my favorite strings. I use the 9.5 gauge.

Quite a few have mentioned NYXL’s - I might try those and the GHS Boomers - you have me intrigued by those reissues though

When I started playing, I went with GHS, because that's what the guy I'd just been doing sound for, and all his picking buddies, used. Quickly decided they weren't it for me, so I tried EBs briefly, then spent a few years with Dean Markley. But I have used D'Addario on everything for decades now; they just work for me.

Strat, Tele, Sheraton: XL110w (nickel roundwound, .010-.046 with wound G)
J-5: ECG24 (chrome flatwound .011-.050)
5014: EJ26 (phosphor-bronze roundwound, .011-.052)
G-335: EJ41 (phoshor-bronze roundwound, .009/.009-.026/.045)
R-2: EFT16 (phoshor-bronze flattop, .012-.052)
CS-225 ii: Pro-Arté (Silver wound, clear plain, normal Tension)
RBX-365: EXL125 (nickel roundwound, .045-.105; next change I'm trying Chrome Flats on it)
Unlabeled mountain dulcimer: 4-String Dulcimer (no fancy set name for these; .012, .012, .014, .022 - all plain)

This what the tech put on my new Gibson Les Paul Classic in Olive Drab Daddario NYXL 10-46. They sound really great and should last a long time.
Like most of us, I have a few guitars and don't always play the same one.
I can get away with annual string changes on my less played guitars, and quarterly for my regular players.
I was using the cobalts before these, and I didn't mind them at all, but the NYXLs blow them out of the water for feel and sound (for me).

I will add that when my son told me he was taking my Alvarez 5014 to college and I told him that no, in fact he was not, he spent his summer earnings on an SD-80; came with Elixers on it.

I was impressed with neither the feel nor the tone - but when it came home with him 4 years later (4 years in which, I will add, he 1) worked in the campus bicycle shop, and 2) thought hygiene was bouguie) they were still on it, and (while perhaps a mite crusty) sounded pretty much the same.

Not the strings for me - I have yet to meet a coated string I liked - but if you want the so-so tone to last for freakin' ever, they're yer huckleberry.
