What should I paint on my guitar?

I appreciate there's a thread for modding your guitar but that's pretty techy and I haven't a clue about that, this is purely cosmetic.

I got an Epiphone Dot a few months back for my mate to paint. Unfortunately she probably won't be able to paint it now- not bad news as her art is really taking off and she's getting loads of paid commissions now.

I'll probably stencil something on there myself. I'll take a picture, vector it so it's just an outline then print it out, cut it out, tape it to the guitar and spray over it. But what should I get? It has to be a one colour stencil, I really can't paint!

I had the idea when I saw Chris Shiflett's Les Paul:

Mine is the same colour- I got a natural colour and a wide guitar on purpose, so there is enough of a blank canvas.

Any suggestions? I was thinking a pin up girl like on the side of a 50s American fighter plane, but that's my only idea so far.

FYI the current favourite idea is a screen grab of Martijn Reuser scoring the final goal in Ipswich's 4-2 win over Barnsley in the 2000 Division One Play Off Final

I was coming in here to say pin up girl, but you already thought of that.

I used a pin up girl. What do you spray it with?

Hi, i think you should consider stickers, there are some high quality stickers on the market, extremely thin, really resistant, and you can easily remove them when you want.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Yeah I was thinking pin-up girl was a bit of a cliche too... but sod it, it looks good. Someone asked what type of paint I'd be using. In answer:
Black paint

Actually I don't know but I know Jack on Denmark St fairly well who can point me in the right direction, I was going to worry about that when it came to it.

Martijn Reuser scoring at Wembley does have a certain appeal to it though...

Ah, a nice honey blondie. What style music do you usually play ?? If pinup girl is what you want get a raven haired girl to counter the light shade of the wood. Some peeps like competition stripes and such also. Its your guitar you could make it personal to you, something behind the tailpiece maybe lot's of room there.

Nice axe.

I'm really chuffed that this inspired someone else to do it! Somewhere, possibly the other side of the world, someone has painted their guitar because of me. That's pretty cool.

Yeah I picked a natural guitar colour so the guitar was more of a 'blank canvas'. Are competition stripes like go faster stripes? I think there's a signature guitar from the blink 182 guitarist like that.

usually decals or graphics on a guitar look pretty lame. aside from maybe a few super rare cases.

Johnny Thunders had the virgin Merry on his headstock from his Les Paul Jr. looked badass. Look him up, he's had some cool looking guitars with graphics on them.
